Weekend Weather Forecast
A frontal boundary stalled out to our south this weekend will keep temperatures down while providing a few opportunities for some showers.
<!–more–>
Skies will be mostly cloudy on Friday, though some filtered sunshine and even a few genuine breaks in the clouds will still be possible.
Almost all areas will remain dry until after sunset, with just a few stray showers possible late in the afternoon across the Southern Tier.
Light north winds will blow, causing a range of temperatures across the area. North of the Thruway, upper 60s are likely. Meanwhile, in the valleys of the Southern Tier, a few mid and even upper 70s will be possible. On average, most places will end up somewhere around 70 degrees.
Air quality is not a concern today with minimal smoke in the atmosphere as the northerly flow keeps clean air in place.
Showers will spread north into the region this evening and stick around overnight. The rain may have a hard time getting north of the Thruway in a meaningful manner. Some periods of steadier rain are possible, especially in the Southern Tier.
The showers will linger into Saturday morning, mainly across the southern half of the region. These will gradually push further south and exit the region. A stray shower may pop up in the afternoon, but most areas will stay dry.
Winds will remain light out of the north, possibly shifting to the northeast or east late in the day. Air quality will remain in good condition.
Temperatures Saturday will start in the mid 50s with highs averaging out around 70 degrees again. This time, the northern areas will have the best chance of climbing above 70 degrees, whereas the south will generally be cooler with the longer lasting rain showers and thicker cloud cover.
A few showers will be possible into Sunday as well, though the models are split on this possibility. Many areas could end up with a dry day.
Winds will be light and variable, with southeast winds across the southeastern Finger Lakes, and north winds elsewhere. Wind speeds will be nearly calm at times.
After starting in the mid 50s, most areas should get above 70 degrees on Sunday. The warmest areas will be along the I-90 and I-390 corridors, where a few mid 70s may pop up.

Weather Next Week
Our weather pattern will not change too much next week.
Monday will be another day with a chance for scattered showers, but not too much rain around overall.
The coverage of the showers may be a bit higher than this weekend, but anything that falls is expected to be light, with individual showers likely staying short-lived.
Southerly winds will take back over, nudging temperatures upward. Morning lows will be in the upper 60s with afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
Tuesday will be similar, with a few showers and southerly winds. It may start to feel a bit muggy, too. Morning lows will mainly be in the low 60s with afternoon highs around 80 degrees.
Scattered showers and storms will become possible Wednesday and Thursday, though the timing and concentration of storms will depend on whether there are any small disturbances in the atmosphere to trigger storms.
While there will be ample fuel for storms, winds aloft look weak, so any severe weather will most likely be limited to brief, isolated instances.
Temperatures will reach the mid 80s Wednesday and Thursday with warm overnight lows in the mid and upper 60s.
Air quality next week is, of course, uncertain this far in advance, but with this weekend’s front locking the smoke to our south, it is fair to wonder if our southerly flow next week may bring some of that back into the area.
