A few showers, storms Wednesday and Thursday

Rain Chances Increase a Little

Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible today and tomorrow.

While the rain chances will be higher than the last few days, there will still be areas that will most likely miss out on any rain.

Models vary on how much precipitation pops up today, but most are focused on the late afternoon and the northern half of the region for development.

That does not preclude a shower or storm popping up elsewhere or earlier, but anything that does should be isolated.

Skies will likely remain rather cloudy, though some breaks of sun here and there are also expected.

Light southwest winds will push warmer air into the area with highs in the low and mid 80s this afternoon. Dewpoints will be in the upper 60s to around 70, so it will feel muggy as well.

The chance for showers and storms will continue into the evening hours, but should gradually diminish. Partly cloudy skies will take over, but it will remain very warm with lows in the mid and upper 60s.

A frontal boundary will cross the region during the late morning and early afternoon on Thursday. Showers and storms will develop along this front as it does so.

The further east, the higher the chance for showers and storms with the front. Any storms that get going will have a chance of containing strong wind gusts, but the severe threat will be higher outside of our region to the east.

Behind the front, some gusty southwest winds will develop. Occasional gusts over 40 mph are possible. The wind will die down substantially after sunset.

Temperatures will top out in the upper 70s and low 80s during the afternoon, despite the frontal passage.

Hazardous Heat Next Week

Friday looks like a quiet day with a mix of sun and clouds. A stray spit of rain cannot be completely ruled out, but almost all areas will stay dry. Highs will be in the upper 70s.

Heat will start to build on Saturday as temperatures push back into the mid 80s.

Saturday is expected to be dry during the daytime hours, with thin clouds filtering some of the sun.

After midnight, some scattered thunderstorms may move in with frequent lightning. This remains uncertain and will depend on storm development across the Upper Midwest and southern Canada both Friday and Saturday.

Should storms make it into the area, some may linger into Sunday morning. The rest of Sunday, however, should be dry.

Temperatures will rise even more, with highs around 90 degrees on Sunday. Dewpoints will be climbing as well, making it feel several degrees hotter.

After temperatures only make it down to around 70 degrees Saturday night, Sunday night will only reach the low 70s.

Sunny skies will drive temperatures well into the 90s on Monday. Tropical dewpoints in the mid and even upper 70s will make it feel oppressively humid, while also spiking heat index values dangerously high. Most of the Finger Lakes will likely see heat indices above 100.

This is hazardous at any time of the year, but coming off such a rainy and cool stretch, we have not had any time to acclimate to this type of weather. Please use caution and common sense.

There will be no real relief Monday night with lows in the mid 70s. Tuesday will be another hot one, though likely a degree or two below Monday. Heat indices could approach 100 degrees again.

Temperatures should moderate back toward the 80s for the middle and end of next week with increasing chances for rain starting Thursday.
