Late Week Weather Forecast

An area of low pressure is moving northeast through the Great Lakes and will drag a cold front through our area today.

Most of the active weather and severe thunderstorm threat is to our east and southeast today, but a few pop up storms will still be possible with an isolated severe threat.

The most likely time for storms will be during the afternoon hours, possibly even coming in multiple rounds. However, the storms are likely to remain isolated to scattered, so not everyone will end up seeing rain today.

Winds will turn blustery this afternoon and evening, and any storms that do form may be able to enhance those winds and produce some localized severe wind gusts.

Outside of the storms, southwest and west winds may gust to 40 mph at times.

Temperatures will top out in the low 80s today with some 70s to the west, where the front will have an impact sooner.

A few showers will be possible during the overnight as the low passes by. Overnight temperatures will be comfortable in the upper 50s.

Friday will have sun and clouds with a few stray showers still possible. Winds will not be as blustery as today and should weaken as the day goes on.

Temperatures will be mild, with highs generally staying below 80 degrees in the mid and upper 70s.

Friday night will drop to the low 60s. A stray shower or storm cannot be ruled out, especially toward the predawn hours.

Hazardous Heat Wave

Temperatures will start to rise again on Saturday and will become hazardous through the first half of next week.

Highs will rise to the low and mid 80s on Saturday, while Sunday will see many areas pushing toward or above 90 degrees.

Dewpoints will be on the rise as well, pushing into the mid and locally upper 70s by Sunday.

Both Saturday and Sunday have an uncertain chance for a few early showers and storms. Anything that moves through will be the remains over the previous days’ storms upstream across Canada and the Upper Midwest.

With all the heat and humidity, even in the morning, an isolated severe threat cannot be ruled out. Frequent lightning will also be likely with any storms.

Overnight lows will be very warm this weekend as well, with Saturday night dropping to only the low 70s while Sunday night only reaches the mid 70s.

The core of the heat will arrive Monday and Tuesday.

Fewer clouds should mean Monday will be a couple degrees hotter while a stray shower or storm cannot be 100 percent ruled out on Tuesday.

With dewpoints remaining well up into the 70s, the heat index value will climb above 100 degrees in many areas on these days.

The combination of the prolonged heat, very warm overnights, and high humidity levels will make this a dangerous heat wave. Experimental heat risk maps from the National Weather Service have the region in the highest two risk categories—Major and Extreme—on Monday and Tuesday.

The heat will likely start to let up by Wednesday, when some showers and storms may be possible.

Late next week and the following weekend are looking wetter and not as hot with highs in the 70s.
