Late Week Weather
A series of atmospheric disturbances will pass through over the next few days, resulting in several chances for rain and thunderstorms.
The first of these is already producing areas of rain this morning, especially across the northern Finger Lakes.
Periods of rain to the north will continue this morning with occasional showers further south. By the midday and early afternoon hours, showers and a few storms may increase across the eastern half of the region.
Quieter weather is expected by the late afternoon, with rain moving out of the area and some sunshine breaking out. Dry weather will persist into the evening hours with partly cloudy to mostly clear skies.
Temperatures today will be variable, with highs mainly in the 70s across the northern half of the region, but pushing into the low and even mid 80s to the south, where it will be drier this morning.
Overnight lows will drop to the low and mid 60s. Cortland County may even slip into the upper 50s.
Showers and storms are possible on Friday, but the evolution of the rain chances are uncertain. Models are split on whether the rain will set up over our region, or nearby but elsewhere.
At least some areas will likely end up dry, and the rain could end up only being isolated. Hopefully, this will become clearer by tomorrow morning.
Temperatures should average out around 80 degrees again on Friday, this time with the warmest readings coming in the northwestern Finger Lakes. Mid 80s will be possible along I-390 from Dansville to Rochester.
Meanwhile, to the east, mid 70s are likely in and around Cortland County, with upper 70s common across the rest of the eastern Finger Lakes and into the Southern Tier.
Friday evening’s weather will be determined by what rain develops Friday afternoon. If rain and storms develop, they may linger well into the evening hours.
Overnight lows will be warm and muggy, only reaching the upper 60s to near 70 degrees.

More Storms
A cold front will drop southeast through the region on Saturday. The timing of the front will help determine what type of weather we see.
At the very least, showers and a few downpours are expected. The atmosphere will be very moist with dewpoints into the 70s during the morning hours.
If the front is delayed long enough, large amounts of fuel for storms will develop as temperatures quickly push toward the low 80s.
Winds aloft are marginal, but some storms could still become severe with damaging winds the primary threat. Heavy rain and frequent lightning would also be possible.
The greatest chance for severe weather will likely be across the southern and eastern Finger Lakes. This will be something I will be monitoring closely over the next 48 hours.
Sunday is looking dry with a few morning clouds followed by sunny afternoon skies. Temperatures will be mild with a high around 80 degrees.
South winds will push temperatures up on Monday with a few areas likely hitting 90 degrees. Most of the region will end up just short of that. A few late showers and storms will be possible, but this remains highly uncertain.
A cold front will move through sometime between late Monday and Tuesday, leading to at least some showers on Tuesday as well.
Monday night will be warm and muggy, with lows only around 70 degrees. Cooler air behind the front will keep highs Tuesday to the low 80s.
Some showers may linger on Wednesday before mainly quiet weather late next week.
