Localized Downpours
Most areas will not see much rain over the next two days, with precipitation staying isolated and sporadic.
However, those that do could see heavy downpours as a humid air mass moves back into the region for a brief stay.
There are a few showers dotting the region this morning, mainly across the Southern Tier. Most of these are light so far, but a few are already showing signs of briefly heavy rain.
Isolated showers will be possible at any time today, though some areas will be more favored than others.
During the midday hours, areas along and north of I-90, especially east of Geneva, will see a few of these showers.
Late in the afternoon and this evening, it will be the I-390 corridor from the western Southern Tier to Rochester that has the higher chances for rain.
That is not to say that a stray downpour will not happen elsewhere, or that everyone in those regions will see rain at all.
Temperatures will mainly stick to the mid and upper 70s today, except in the northwest where warm and humid air will start to make its presence felt. Mid 80s will be possible from Dansville to Rochester, helping fuel those sporadic late day downpours in that area.
The showers today will be in response to a warm front moving through the area. South winds will pick up this afternoon and remain blustery through the overnight. A few areas may see wind gusts to 30 mph, particularly in the higher elevations south of Syracuse.
It will be warm and muggy overnight, with lows only reaching the upper 60s to near 70 degrees for many. Mid 60s are more likely across the Southern Tier into Cortland County.
This will be a short-lived air mass with a cold front moving through Saturday morning. Again, sporadic downpours and some thunder will be possible, mainly during the morning hours.
Not everyone will see rain, and the severe threat mostly looks contained to areas to our east and southeast. Still, some localized frequent lightning and heavy rain will be possible.
For the localized downpours both today and tomorrow morning, there is a small chance for some isolated flooding concerns, but most areas should not have anything significant to worry about.
Winds will gradually turn to the west with quite a bit of sunshine during the afternoon. High temperatures will still make it into the low and mid 80s and dewpoints will remain high around 70 degrees until late in the day when they drop.

Summertime Weather Pattern
The weather next week does not look like anything out of the ordinary for the transition from June to July, with temperatures rising and falling as cold fronts pass through the area with chances for thunderstorms.
On Sunday, high pressure will be in control. Skies will be sunny with just a few thin and fair weather clouds. Temperatures will back off a bit, with morning lows mainly in the mid and upper 50s and afternoon highs in the low 80s.
Hot and humid air will push right back in, though. Monday morning will start in the mid 60s with highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Dewpoints will be in the upper 60s to near 70, so heat index values in the low and mid 90s are likely.
Monday should stay dry during the daytime hours, but overnight, some showers and storms will be possible. These will linger into early Tuesday as a cold front moves through.
Conditions should dry out Tuesday afternoon with highs in the low 80s.
Wednesday looks like another sunny day with highs in the mid 80s. Another front will be possible on Thursday with showers and storms.
The 4th of July at this point looks dry, as does most of next weekend for the holiday. Temperatures will mostly be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
