Cold Front
A slow moving front is working its way through the Finger Lakes today as low pressure moves eastward along the front.
Widespread rain has developed over the Finger Lakes and will continue for much of the day.
Embedded within the broader area of rain are some locally heavier pockets. This will continue to be the case throughout the day as well, though thunder is generally not expected.
Over time, the focal point for heavier downpours will shift southward. Rain will gradually come to an end from northwest to southeast during the second half of the afternoon and into the early evening hours.
Rain totals will be variable, but some areas are likely to see over an inch. Many areas will see a half inch or more, and almost everyone should see a minimum of a quarter inch.
Flooding is generally not expected, though some minor poor drainage ponding may occur during heavier downpours.
Temperatures are starting the day in the 60s and will struggle to rise with the rainfall. As the rain tapers late today, some areas will rise into the 70s, especially north of the Thruway. Higher elevations further south, however, may stick closer to the mid or even low 60s.
Skies will clear tonight rather quickly once the rain ends, and most of the region should be cleared out before midnight. Areas of fog will be possible through the overnight and into early Friday morning.
Overnight lows will drop into the mid 50s and a northerly breeze will start to take hold.
Sunshine from early Friday morning will mix with fair weather clouds during the second half of the morning and the afternoon. No rain is expected.
North winds will pick up with speeds around 10 mph and gusts to 25 mph.
Temperatures will be in the mid 70s with comfortable dewpoints well down into the 50s.

Dry Weather
Saturday morning will be a bit on the chilly side with widespread 40s across the southern half of the region and low 50s to the north.
Temperatures will rebound to the mid and upper 70s, and a couple places may even briefly hit 80 degrees.
Skies will start mostly sunny, then mix with sun and clouds. The north wind will still be present, but at lower speeds than on Friday.
The wind will turn southerly Saturday night but will barely be above a whisper. Still, it should be enough to hold overnight lows to the mid 50s.
Sunday will follow the same pattern as Friday and Saturday with morning sun, then a mix of sun and fair weather clouds.
Winds will end up light and variable on Sunday, often with some sort of southerly or westerly direction.
Temperatures will continue to creep higher with most areas at or above 80 degrees and many well into the low 80s. A few pockets may approach 85 degrees. Dewpoints will remain low, however.
It will be more of the same Monday with sun and fair weather clouds, low dewpoints, and temperatures nudging upward. Most areas should be into the mid 80s after a morning low in the upper 50s and low 60s.
Tuesday may end up a bit cloudier, but these should be thin clouds that still allow some or most of the sunlight through. Fair weather clouds will also develop as usual.
Temperatures will start in the low 60s, but will plateau in the afternoon with another day of mid 80s.
The next chance for rain will come late Wednesday into Thursday next week, but even that is far from certain.
Rain chances should increase beyond that, though which days have the best shot of rain cannot be determined at this point.

Thanks for the helpful update, as always.
I noticed you didn’t mention anything about air quality today. The air quality is not good around Ithaca, and the rain so far is not keeping up with settling the smoke. Here at EcoVillage our AQI is 156.

Thanks for catching that, Juliette. I missed out on checking that today (have been fighting some computer issues the last couple days so that had me operating on bare bones this morning). Air Quality will probably remain in that orange/red zone today, but should improve for tomorrow.
