High Pressure Dominates

A series of high pressure systems will keep our weather quiet for the first week of August.

In fact, for about the next four or five days, the weather will behave in the same general pattern with only temperatures changing slightly from day to day.

This repeatable pattern is getting started today.

Skies are clear throughout the region except for some valley fog in the usual places, mainly across the Southern Tier.

Temperatures are mainly in the low 50s, though some areas did dip into the upper and even mid 40s overnight.

As the fog burns off, small, puffy fair weather clouds will develop during the second half of the morning. These will continue through the afternoon, dissipating a bit before sunset, leading to a clear overnight.

Lake Ontario may locally modify the air this afternoon along its lake shore, causing the fair weather clouds to dissipate much earlier, leaving mostly sunny skies north of the Thruway.

Temperatures this afternoon will top out in the low and mid 70s. Dewpoints will be in the 50s and a northerly breeze will blow at up to 10 mph.

Air quality has vastly improved over yesterday as well, making for a nice, fresh feeling to the air.

Extended Weather Pattern

This same general pattern will unfold for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and possibly Tuesday as well.

Saturday’s temperatures will start out even cooler than today, with widespread 40s across the southern half of the region and low 50s to the north. However, highs will be a touch warmer, with most areas in the mid 70s. Winds will be lighter, but still from the north.

Sunday will see morning lows ranging through the 50s with afternoon highs mostly sneaking into the low 80s. Dewpoints will remain in the 50s with light and variable winds.

Monday will continue to see temperatures nudging upward, with upper 50s and low 60s for morning lows, and mid 80s for afternoon highs. Dewpoints will stick to the 50s.

Tuesday is the first day things may start to look and feel a bit different. Some thin clouds may join the fair-weather clouds, reducing the sunshine a little. Dewpoints will also creep up to near or just above 60 degrees.

Morning lows will be around 60, and afternoon highs will stick to the mid 80s.

Wednesday and Thursday are a bit less certain, though clouds should increase further. A few spits of rain will be possible both days, but most areas will probably get through both days dry.

With the extra clouds, temperatures may be a touch less warm, but humidity will be increasing, so it will probably feel less comfortable.

Chances for rain should increase toward next weekend or early in the following week, but the models are chaotic with that possibility in that they do not have much agreement with one another, which reduces the confidence beyond making a usable forecast for any of those days at this point in time.
