Cold Front Resets Temperatures

A cold front will move through the Finger Lakes region today, promising briefly cooler weather but lacking in beneficial rainfall.

That is not to say that it will not rain today, only that most of the rain that falls will do little to alleviate the increasing dryness across the area.

Already this morning, there are some areas of showers about in the Rochester area with more activity across Western New York. This activity should gradually weaken as it moves further into the Finger Lakes, with eastern areas likely seeing little more than a few stray spits of rain.

Additional development of scattered showers and storms will take place this afternoon, but the activity is not expected to be overly robust.

Individual showers and storms should remain small and relatively short-lived. The rain should also be scattered enough that not all areas will see rain this afternoon.

With the morning activity waning and the afternoon activity lacking, most areas will only see low amounts of rain, and some will see none at all. Only a few isolated pockets will see anything meaningful, but a quick dump of heavy rain typically does not help too much with near-drought conditions.

Severe weather is not expected today, though an isolated storm could become briefly gusty.

Outside of the showers and storms, skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Temperatures will top out in the mid 80s, but it will be much more humid than recent days with dewpoints up into the 70s.

A few showers may linger this evening, but most of the nighttime hours will be quiet. Overnight lows will drop into the mid 60s as cooler, dry air moves back into the area.

Thursday will have a mix of sun and clouds. A stray shower cannot be ruled out, but most areas will remain perfectly dry.

Temperatures will top out in the low 80s with dewpoints returning to the upper 50s and low 60s. A light north-northwest wind will blow.

Thursday night will see temperatures drop into the 50s with mostly clear skies.

Weekend Weather Warm Up

Temperatures will make a quick but brief rebound this weekend.

Friday will start the trend by rising into the mid 80s. Dewpoints will remain on the low side, much like they have been lately.

Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds with no rain and light winds.

Saturday will start off in the low 60s with some pockets in the 50s, but afternoon highs will shoot up to near 90 degrees. Dewpoints will be a bit higher, but not too oppressive in the low and mid 60s.

It will be another sunny, dry day with no rain expected.

Another cold front is likely on Sunday with scattered showers and storms. The chances for rain look even less impressive than today, so the weather should only be a minor inconvenience to outdoor plans and no real help with the dryness.

Temperatures will get knocked back again, this time more substantially. Highs on Monday will be near 80 degrees, with most of the rest of next week in the 70s.

There will be a chance for rain on Tuesday, but this is too uncertain to count on at this point. There is a small chance that the rain could be more of the widespread, steady variety that may actually be helpful if everything comes together right.

Beyond that, next week looks primarily dry with possibly some rain by next weekend.
