Active Weather Updates
Update Type:
Expires: September 4, 2025 11:00 am
Clouds are starting to move into the area early this morning out ahead of the front, which is stretching across Ontario and Lake Erie at this time.
There will be a gradual uptick in cloud cover through the morning hours, but rain is generally not expected until the afternoon.
Winds will increase this morning as well, reaching speeds around 15 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph. These will be southerly winds, which will help push temperatures into the mid and upper 70s despite the increasing clouds.
A band of showers and storms will move in from the west during the early to mid afternoon, possibly followed by additional development in the late afternoon and early evening hours.
A couple of the thunderstorms may be strong enough to tap into the gusty winds already present in the atmosphere and could produce some localized tree damage. Widespread severe weather is not expected, though.
Locally heavy rain will also be possible, particularly if there is additional development late in the day. Still, flooding is generally not expected either, with maximum rain amounts in the vicinity of an inch. Most areas will see well under an inch of rainfall.
Winds will drop overnight and rain will end. By Friday morning, skies will be clearing, though some areas of fog will be possible.
Morning lows will be in the low 50s for most areas east of Canandaigua Lake. Steuben County and areas west of Canandaigua Lake will dip into the 40s.
Friday will remain quiet with sun and clouds. A stray shower cannot be totally ruled out, but anything that develops should be very small and brief.
Southwest winds will develop as the next system approaches from the west. Wind speeds will be up around 15 mph again with a few gusts over 30 mph, especially in the west. Afternoon highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees will result.

Wet Saturday, Then Drying Out
Another slow moving frontal boundary will make its way through the area on Saturday.
Rain is likely with the front, especially during the morning hours. How much will fall and how long it will last is still a bit uncertain, though.
The chances for rain should drop or end all together during the afternoon hours.
Winds will be light and variable in the morning as the front moves through, then will turn to the northwest during the afternoon.
Cooler air will build in, keeping highs in the mid 60s. Saturday night will be chilly, with lows ranging through the 40s as skies partially clear.
Sunday will have a mix of clouds, some sun, and a few stray showers. Most of the time it will not be raining, and many areas will not see any rain at all.
West-northwest winds will blow with speeds up to 10 mph, keeping temperatures cool. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the mid 60s again.
Sunday night will be cooler yet, with lows mainly in the lower half of the 40s. A few upper 30s may show up in the usually cooler areas.
Monday looks mostly dry, though the chance for a stray shower is still uncertain. Northwest winds to 10 mph will remain, meaning highs will again be in the mid 60s.
Clear skies and light winds Monday night will send temperatures into the upper 30s and low 40s. A few frosty pockets will be possible.
Dry weather and slightly warmer temperatures will dominate the rest of next week with highs around or slightly above 70 degrees. Nights will be cool in the 40s and low 50s.
