Weekend Weather Forecast
Another cold front will move through the region early Saturday, bringing rain and cooler temperatures.
Ahead of this system, southwest winds will develop today and once again become blustery. Wind speeds will be around 15 mph with gusts of 30-35 mph, peaking from midday to the mid afternoon.
These winds will bring warmer air right back in despite last night’s cold front. Most places will end up between 75-80 degrees this afternoon.
Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds. A late, stray shower cannot be ruled out, especially over the western half of the region.
A few more stray showers will be possible tonight. Winds will become lighter and gradually turn to a westerly direction before becoming mostly calm by the morning as the front passes through.
Rain will develop just behind the front and may become widespread through the region Saturday morning. There is still a bit of uncertainty in the exact location of the core of this band of rain, and thus how long it will last.
No matter what, most areas should dry out Saturday afternoon, though it will remain rather cloudy with a few stray showers.
Light northwest winds will eventually develop, importing cool air into the region. Afternoon highs will be in the low and mid 60s.
Saturday night will be partly cloudy with some patchy fog. Overnight lows will be near 50 degrees along the lakes and in the north, while the typically colder areas of the Southern Tier and Cortland County drop to the mid 40s.
Sunday will have clouds and some sun. A few stray showers may pop up, but most areas will stay dry. Any rain that falls should be brief and light.
Northwest winds will be stronger, with speeds near or slightly above 10 mph. Temperatures will remain in the mid 60s as a result.

Next Week’s Weather
High pressure will take over the weather for most of next week.
Clearing skies Sunday night will send temperatures into the low and mid 40s with a few pockets of upper 30s Monday morning.
Fair weather clouds will develop on Monday, but no rain is expected. West-northwest winds will keep it cool, with highs in the mid and upper 60s.
Another chilly night is expected Monday night, with lows near or even a touch colder than the night before. A few pockets of frost cannot be ruled out in the coldest areas.
Temperatures will rebound on Tuesday as winds swing around to the southeast. Afternoon highs will jump to the low and mid 70s.
Wednesday will be similar, with sun and clouds and highs well into the 70s. The morning will not be as cold either, with lows in the upper half of the 40s to near 50 degrees.
Winds will pick up on Thursday to near 10 mph as a weak weather system passes through. Only a few scattered showers are expected with minimal rainfall.
With an increase in clouds, temperatures will be closer to 70 degrees on Thursday.
Mainly dry weather is expected into next weekend, but temperatures are less certain. There will probably be a drop on Friday behind Thursday’s system, but how much temperatures rebound during the weekend is uncertain.
