Incoming Cold Front
Temperatures will be very warm again today beneath sunny skies before a potent cold front brings in much cooler temperatures for the latter half of the week.
Sun-filled skies will gradually mix with some thin clouds off and on today. These clouds will not filter the sunshine much, if at all.
South and southwest winds will blow with speeds between 5-10 mph.
Most areas will end up at or above 80 degrees today, and the typically warmer parts of the region, such as the I-90 and I-390 corridors, should push into the mid 80s.
Relative humidity values will drop below 40% again today. With vegetation dying off and drought conditions throughout the region, we will once again have a high risk for brush fires today. A statewide burn ban remains in effect.
Clouds and winds will increase tonight, keeping temperatures warm. Many areas across the north and near the lakeshores will see low and even mid 60s overnight. The typically cooler pockets of the Southern Tier and Central New York may approach but mostly stay above 55 degrees.
The first rain from tomorrow’s cold front should start to arrive during the second half of the morning in the form of some scattered showers. Occasional showers and a few thunderstorms will be likely during the afternoon hours, transitioning to a widespread, steadier rain during the evening and first part of the overnight hours.
Many areas should see over a half inch of rainfall, and a few pockets could see slightly over an inch.
Winds will be from the south at around 10 mph until turning to the northwest during the evening. Even with clouds and showers, highs should still manage to reach the mid 70s.

Cool Weather
Temperatures will drop sharply behind the front as rain moves out of the area before sunrise Wednesday. Morning lows will be down into the mid and upper 40s with a few lakeshores staying around 50 degrees.
Sunshine will mix with some clouds on Wednesday, but no additional rain is expected. Northwest wind will be breezy with speeds approaching 15 mph and gusts approaching 30 mph.
Most areas will see a high just short of 60 degrees on Wednesday. The best chance for breaking 60 degrees will be in and around Syracuse and Dansville, and in the broad valleys of the Southern Tier between Bath and Binghamton.
North winds around 5 mph will persist overnight, pushing most areas down into the 30s. Pockets of low 30s are possible in the Southern Tier and Central New York. The wind may prevent widespread frost formation despite the cold temperatures, but it will be important to protect sensitive vegetation, regardless.
Mostly sunny skies are excepted on Thursday with chilly temperatures. Most areas will end up somewhere around 55 degrees, and some higher elevations may not climb much above 50 degrees. Winds will be from the north at up to 10 mph.
The wind will become nearly calm Thursday night with clear skies. Frost and freeze conditions are very likely, and a few of the coldest may even slip below 30 degrees. Even lakeshore locations may see frost with lows in the mid 30s.
After sunrise Friday, winds will turn to the south. With ample sunshine, most areas should get back above 60 degrees.
Saturday may tack on a couple more degrees, but the cloud cover is uncertain as a coastal system takes shape. A few rain showers from this system may be possible Sunday but remains very uncertain at this time.
Rain chances should increase at some point next week with temperatures mainly staying in the 60s for daytime highs.
