High Pressure in Control

A shift in the weather pattern will keep our weather dominated by high pressure, with dry weather for the next week a real possibility.

<!–more–>

Wednesday and Thursday will both be easily controlled by high pressure with no chances for precipitation at all.

Skies will generally be sunny, though there will be some passing clouds from time to time. Many of these clouds will only filter, not completely block out, the sunshine.

As high pressure passes overhead today, winds will be nearly calm. Afternoon highs will be just a degree or two warmer than yesterday, with most areas in the low 40s.

It will be cool again tonight beneath the high, but a light south wind will eventually develop, which should make it just a bit warmer than last night as a whole, though localized pockets will be just as or even a touch cooler. Most areas should expect mid and upper 20s overnight.

Southerly winds will continue on Thursday but only with speeds around 5 mph. Still, combined with the ample sunshine, it will be enough to give temperatures a small boost, with most areas at or above 45 degrees.

The south wind will gradually increase Thursday night, and some clouds may build in. Overnight lows will stay in the low and mid 30s as a result.

A cold front will pass through on Friday, turning winds to the west during the afternoon.

A few stray spits of rain will be possible, but it is looking more and more likely that rainfall will be minimal. Many areas may get through the day without any at all.

Temperatures will rise into the low 50s on average, though some areas may approach 55 degrees while higher elevations stick to the upper 40s.

Dry Weekend, Early Week

A new area of high pressure will build in behind Friday’s cold front, extending the dry weather into next week.

Saturday’s winds will be from the northwest as the high builds into the Upper Great Lakes. Wind speeds may go over 10 mph for a time.

Sunshine will mix with some clouds. It may not be quite as sunny as today and tomorrow, but no precipitation will fall.

Temperatures will get knocked back a bit with the northwesterly flow. Morning lows will still be in the 30s, but afternoon highs will be similar to today in the low 40s.

The center of high pressure will pass by Saturday night, leading to a return of southerly winds by Sunday. Wind speeds Sunday should remain at or under 10 mph.

Skies will again be a mix of sun and clouds, with afternoon highs pushing into the mid and upper 40s.

Monday will be similar to Friday with an increase in clouds and highs at least approaching 50 degrees. A stray spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out, but the chances look even lower than on Friday.

Clouds will increase further on Tuesday, with highs in the upper 40s. Some late rain showers may be possible.

The weather looks more unsettled for the days around and including Thanksgiving next week, but the details are highly uncertain at this point. Temperatures should eventually drop, so snow will be possible, especially after Thanksgiving.
