Weekend Weather Forecast
A pair of weak weather systems will clip the area over the next few days, with one coming today and another on Sunday.
Clouds are thick across the region this morning out ahead of the cold front associated with this system. The front will not arrive until this afternoon, though.
A stray shower cannot be ruled out this morning, but the best chance for rain will come during the latter half of the afternoon. However, showers will remain light and scattered with most areas barely seeing anything measurable.
It will be a bit warmer today than it has been, with highs up around 50 degrees. Higher elevations will be in the mid and upper 40s.
Winds will be from the southwest at 10-15 mph with a few gusts approaching 30 mph. The wind will gradually turn more westerly late today and tonight and should end up from the northwest by sunrise Saturday.
The northwesterly flow coming across Lake Ontario will give rise to a few flurries across the central and eastern Finger Lakes Saturday morning. A few of these may linger into the afternoon, when they would likely turn to spits of rain.
Nothing heavy is expected, and accumulations will be limited to an isolated coating here or there.
Temperatures on Saturday will start in the low and mid 30s, while afternoon highs reach the low 40s. Some higher elevations may not quite make it to 40 degrees.
The northwest wind will become steady, especially in the afternoon, with speeds around or slightly over 10 mph. These winds will turn back to the south by midnight as the next system for Sunday approaches.
Like today, precipitation on Sunday will be very light and sporadic. Most of it will fall as rain, but some higher elevations may see some snow, especially in the morning. Again, no real accumulation is expected.
Sunday’s temperatures will start in the upper 20s and low 30s, rising several degrees before the sun rises thanks to the developing southerly flow. Afternoon highs will reach the low and mid 40s.
Winds will turn to the northwest again for the afternoon with speeds of 10-15 mph.

Thanksgiving Week Weather
High pressure will slide through the area, bringing a dry day on Monday with some sunshine.
Winds will turn back to the south as the high passes by, helping temperatures into the upper 40s.
Another system will move in on Tuesday with some widespread rain. While the rain should not be heavy, this system looks a bit better organized than Friday’s or Sunday’s, so the rain may be steadier.
A few showers may linger into Wednesday, but some sun may also break through the clouds at times. Temperatures will warm from the upper 40s on Tuesday to the mid 50s on Wednesday.
Wednesday will be blustery, with west winds of 15-20 mph and some gusts over 40 mph possible.
However, cooler weather is expected to build in by Thanksgiving. After starting in the low 30s, afternoon highs will struggle to reach 40 degrees.
Areas of lake effect are expected to develop, but with a primarily westerly wind, much of this may end up just outside of the area. Of course, with holiday travel, our area of concern is a bit broader this time of the year, so this may still end up impacting some of you.
The final days of the month and start of December look cool with an active weather pattern. The exact path of the passing low pressure systems will determine our temperature, how much precipitation we see, and whether that falls as rain, snow, or some sort of wintry mix.
As always, I will be happy to help you with any weather related travel questions for Thanksgiving (or otherwise), or any other weather questions at any time.
In an effort to help me keep track of all these questions and ensure I don’t miss any, I have created a new page on my website, Ask Drew! (flxweather.com/ask-drew), where I would ask you go to submit your weather forecast related questions.
