Before getting there, today will be a quiet day with high pressure passing through.

Morning clouds will gradually dissipate, leaving a fair amount of sunshine for the afternoon. Precipitation is not expected.

Winds will be on the light side, especially in the afternoon. Morning winds will be from the northwest up to 10 mph. Afternoon winds will briefly be calm, then will swing around to the southwest at around 5 mph.

Temperatures will range throughout the 40s, with upper 40s in the valleys to the south and west, low 40s in the higher elevations east, and mid 40s for most areas.

Clouds will roll back in tonight with southerly winds increasing to around 10 mph. Temperatures this evening will drop a few degrees, then hold steady or rise slightly overnight. Some areas will start Tuesday around 40 degrees, with the rest of the area in the mid and upper 30s.

A warm front will lift toward the area on Tuesday, with clouds through the morning and rain arriving during the early to mid afternoon hours from southwest to northeast.

Several hours of steady light rain will fall, tapering to some showers in the evening. Most areas will see under a quarter inch, though.

Temperatures Tuesday will reach the upper 40s to near 50 degrees, back off slightly for the evening, then rise back to those levels overnight. South winds will remain at 10-15 mph into Wednesday.

Scattered showers will continue to be possible on Wednesday, though some breaks of sun may also be possible. Southwest winds will continue to push warm air in, and highs should reach the upper 50s with a few places hitting 60 degrees.

During the afternoon, there will be a subtle but mighty wind shift as the cold front passes through. Overall, winds will remain from the southwest, but now cold air will rush in. Temperatures will drop into the 30s by evening, with upper 20s and low 30s overnight.

Lake Effect Snow Concerns

Thursday, Thanksgiving Day, will kick off several days of a new weather pattern.

As the cold air rushes in, lake effect snow will develop Wednesday night northeast of the Great Lakes. By the morning hours, flurries and some squalls will be moving into the western and northern parts of the region courtesy of Lake Erie.

Over time on Thursday, winds will become more westerly, bringing the Erie snow bands south through the area.

Most areas in the Finger Lakes will see some snow in the air on Thursday, but accumulations should be minimal, except in the far west, west of I-390.

Thursday will also be windy, with top gusts of 35-45 mph. Afternoon highs will be in the mid and upper 30s.

The wind will continue to turn Thursday night, ending up from the northwest Friday morning. The origin of our snow will transition from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, with the focal point moving to the northeastern Finger Lakes.

Flurries and squalls will continue throughout Friday with some moderate accumulation possible in and around Onondaga County.

It will also remain windy, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Temperatures Friday will start in the mid and upper 20s, and highs will struggle to the mid 30s.

Areas of snow will continue Friday night but may become more localized. Flurries and a few squalls will be possible earlier Saturday as well but with much less coverage and intensity, still focusing on the northeastern corner of the region.

Temperatures will start ranging through the 20s, and highs will mainly be in the low and mid 30s.

Winds will be lighter on Saturday and should swing around to the south late in the day ahead of the next system.

That system will bring rain, snow, or a mix of both on Sunday. Keep an eye on the forecast if you have late weekend travel plans, as there is plenty of uncertainty in the path and strength of this system.

The uncertainty in the weather is high next week with a huge range of possibilities showing on the models.
