Mid-Week Weather Forecast

An area of high pressure will pass through the area today, followed by a sharp cold front tomorrow.

Clearing skies overnight have allowed temperatures to drop further than expected with the fresh snow cover. There are a few pockets of cloudiness, and thin clouds are beginning to stream in from the west.

The clouds will increase over the course of the morning and will be present through the afternoon. However, nothing more than a very isolated, light flurry is expected. The best chance for a few snowflakes will be over the western Finger Lakes.

Southwest winds are expected to develop this morning with speeds mainly under 10 mph. These winds will persist through the afternoon.

Temperatures will rebound from the chilly start to a high in the low and mid 30s. Evening temperatures will drop to the upper 20s to around 30 degrees.

Clouds will increase and thicken tonight, and the southwest wind will increase to around 10 mph. These factors will keep temperatures mainly steady overnight, with most areas starting Thursday morning in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.

Some scattered snow showers will be possible as early as the later evening hours and overnight, but most areas will see little to no snow.

As Thursday dawns, the chances for snow will increase as a strong cold front moves in from the northwest.

This front will bring scattered snow showers and a few heavier snow squalls to the area throughout the day on Thursday. While the squalls may be narrow and short-lived, they may make for difficult travel conditions.

If you have plans to be on the roads tomorrow, be ready for rapidly changing conditions and be prepared to possibly pull off into a safe location to wait for a squall to pass.

Winds will turn to the northwest as the front passes in the morning and will become quite blustery during the midday and first half of the afternoon. Wind speeds will approach 20 mph with gusts of 30-40 mph.

Temperatures will lose several degrees over the course of the day, ending up in the low and mid 20s by afternoon. With the wind, it will feel more like 5 to 15 degrees.

Most areas will see an inch or less of snow accumulation. However, if some lake effect sets up later in the day and remains stationary for an hour or two, some highly localized amounts of 2-4 inches will be possible.

Quiet But Cool

High pressure will be quick to build in behind the front, causing winds to become nearly calm by the mid to late evening hours Thursday.

Skies will at least partially clear overnight, leading to widespread temperatures near or under 10 degrees by Friday morning.

Friday will have a fair bit of sunshine, especially early in the day. A south wind will develop as the high passes to the east, but afternoon highs will still only manage the mid and upper 20s.

Saturday will start off with lows in the mid and upper 10s and some low 20s. Afternoon highs will push to the mid 30s as southerly winds and at least partial sunshine continue.

A few snow showers will be possible on Sunday, particularly late in the day. Temperatures will start in the mid 20s and afternoon highs will be in the low 30s.

Those snow showers will be associated with another front, which will knock temperatures back early next week. Monday will start out around 10 degrees with highs in the low 20s. Monday night will be colder, with widespread single digits.

Another batch of snow showers looks possible on Tuesday with an increase in active weather late next week. Depending on the path low pressure systems take, not everything that falls from the sky will necessarily be snow.
