Predawn Tuesday-Tuesday Evening

What: Occasional snow showers

Impacts: Minor

Clouds will increase and thicken overnight with scattered snow showers arriving before sunrise. These will continue on and off Tuesday, though there will likely be a bit of a lull in the snow shower activity in the middle of the day. A few heavier snow showers will be possible late in the afternoon and early Tuesday evening.

These snow showers will be associated with a weak weather system passing through. Accumulations will generally be less the an inch with only brief, minor travel impacts.

Light southwest winds will turn westerly late. High temperatures will be in the mid and upper 20s.

Wednesday-Thursday

What: Limited lake effect snow

Where: Mainly Wayne, Cayuga, and Onondaga counties

Impacts: None → Low

Northwest winds will allow some lake effect snow production on Wednesday and into early Thursday. Most of this snow will be light, but some areas could still see several inches due to its persistence. More of the fine-details on fluctuations in intensity and location will become clear over the next day or so.

Outside of the main lake effect area, skies will be mixed with just a stray flurry on occasion. Temperatures will peak in the low 20s Wednesday with Thursday morning lows variable, but averaging out in the low 10s.

Winds will turn to the southwest Thursday afternoon, removing the lake effect. Nonetheless, highs will only be around 20 degrees.

Friday

What: Snow showers, increasing winds late

Impacts: Low

A weather system will pass through on Friday with periods of snow. While uncertain, a couple inches may fall in some areas. Late day squalls with the cold front will be a possibility to monitor. Winds will become blustery late in the day and Friday night with lake effect snow kicking in.

Temperatures will make it to the mid 20s before the front. Overnight lows will fall well into the single digits.

Weekend & Next Week

Behind Friday’s system, the air will turn cold again with highs Saturday in the single digits and Sunday possibly not much higher. Much of the southern half of the region has a shot at dropping below zero early Sunday morning.

Saturday will have areas of lake effect snow, but the details are still uncertain. Snow will likely linger into early Sunday before winds begin to turn more southerly.

Temperatures will spend the early part of next week transitioning from the cold of the weekend into warmer temperatures for the second half of the week. There is at least a chance for multiple days at or above 30 degrees.

The weather pattern looks fairly quiet for the first half of the week.
