Temperatures Monday morning are following the cold weekend with most areas starting out near or below zero. However, this will be the last of the deep cold for this week with temperatures moderating to more run-of-the-mill levels.
Monday
What: Increasing Clouds
Impacts: None
The morning hours will have a fair amount of sunshine, but thin clouds will start to move in before too long. These will gradually increase and thicken through the afternoon.
Temperatures will be warmest in the Southern Tier, where low 20s are possible. To the north, upper 10s are more likely. Winds will be light and variable to completely calm.
Tonight, temperatures will drop to the low and mid 10s initially, then start to rise overnight as a southerly wind starts to become established.

Tuesday
What: A band of morning snow, sporadic late precipitation
Impacts: Minor
A quick moving band of snow will cross the Finger Lakes tomorrow morning, though some southern areas may not see much. A quick coating of snow may make a few roads briefly slick, but no major impacts or accumulations are expected. Roughly speaking, areas west of Seneca Lake are most likely to see the snow before 8 AM, while areas east will be more likely to see it after 8 AM.
Some precipitation may swing back in later in the day, but this remains uncertain. This would mostly fall as some light snow, but some rain could mix in. Again, northern areas are more likely to see this than southern ones, though that is more of an inexact generalization than a rule of thumb.
Temperatures will spend at least a couple hours above freezing for most of the area during the afternoon. South winds may be a touch breezy at times, but should not be too strong. Evening temperatures will remain near the freezing mark in the low 30s.
Wednesday
What: Breezy, lake snows
Impacts: Generally Minor, Locally Low
A spray of snow showers is expected across the region on Wednesday. Northwest winds will also be blustery with occasional gusts over 30 mph. Snow accumulations will be limited to an inch or two for most areas, but the wind may cause some blowing and drifting. Afternoon highs should be around 30 degrees, so wind chill concern will be minimal.
Thursday
What: Lingering lake snows
Impacts: Minor
Lake effect snow showers will continue to fall on Thursday, at least in the morning. These will be more sporadic and lighter than Wednesday. Most areas should see little to no accumulation. Temperatures will take a small step back with highs in the mid 20s.
Friday-Saturday
What: Periods of sun
Impacts: None
Clearing skies Thursday night will put temperatures in the lower half of the 10s Friday morning. Afternoon highs will rebound to the mid 20s with plenty of sunshine and no snow expected.
Saturday is less certain but should also have at least some sun from time to time. After starting in the 10s, southerly flow will push temperatures toward the 30s.
Sunday-Monday
What: A mix of precipitation types?
Impacts: Uncertain
A weather system should move through our area sometime Sunday and/or Monday. Cold air will be lacking, so precipitation type is very uncertain at this point and highly dependent on the path and strength of the low pressure system. Perhaps the most likely scenario is for precipitation to start as snow and eventually turn to rain. Be wary of hype from other weather sources.
Next Week
The weather pattern looks a bit more active next week, though it is too early to pinpoint which days will have the highest chances for precipitation.
Likewise, temperatures will ultimately be determined by the paths and strengths of passing weather systems. However, at this time, there appears to be little threat of intense cold like we have seen lately. I would say it is more likely we see a day with highs in the 40s than highs in the 10s… not that either looks overly likely at this time.
