The lunar eclipse early Tuesday morning will be racing incoming and thickening clouds, but still may have decent viewing in some parts of the Finger Lakes. After that, a wintry mix of snow, ice, and rain will arrive during the midday hours, causing some slick spots on untreated surfaces. There will then be gradual transition over to mostly rain for the afternoon, with precipitation moving out during the evening hours.

Early Morning (3-7 AM)

Increasing and thickening clouds, but still potential for viewing the Lunar Eclipse (starts around 5 AM, totality at 6 AM, moonset/sunrise ends the show before 7 AM).

No precipitation expected.

South winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures mainly in the mid 20s, but some upper 10s and low 20s in the I-81 Corridor.

Morning (7-11 AM)

Becoming overcast.

Some snow or freezing rain showers late in the morning, mainly across the Southern Tier.

South winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures rising to the low and mid 30s.

Midday (11 AM-1 PM)

Cloudy.

Precipitation becomes widespread, with freezing rain across portions of the south, snow in the east, and rain showers to the north and northwest. Local variation in precipitation type will be high.

South winds around or just over 10 mph.

Temperatures mainly in the mid 30s, but with some colder and warmer pockets.

Afternoon (1-4 PM)

Cloudy.

Much of the precipitation turning to rain, but still a few icy pockets.

South winds around or just over 10 mph.

Temperatures mainly in the mid 30s with just a few isolated pockets remaining near freezing while other pockets push toward 40 degrees.

Late Afternoon (4-6 PM)

Cloudy.

Rain showers. A few icy pockets linger.

South winds around 10 mph.

Temperatures mainly steady in the mid 30s, but with fewer warm or cold pockets.

Evening (6-10 PM)

Cloudy.

Rain showers ending from northwest to southeast. A few icy pockets linger.

South and southwest winds around 5 mph.

Temperatures steady in the mid 30s.

Overnight (11 PM-3 AM)

Some breaks in the clouds.

No precipitation expected.

West winds around or under 5 mph.

Temperatures steady in the mid 30s.
