This graphic represents an average over the entire Finger Lakes region. Localized variations should be expected.

The next few days will be marked by stray showers during the daytime hours and clearing skies at night. Cold air will hold afternoon highs to near or just over 50 degrees, while nighttime temperatures drop to the 30s. Areas of frost are likely, though due to the technicalities surrounding the issuing of Frost Advisories, the areas most at risk for frost will not have advisories in place. Temperatures will moderate a bit early next week before another cool down late in the week.

Thursday

What: Scattered showers.

Cloudy skies, stray showers, and areas of drizzle will persist this morning. During the afternoon, the drizzle should end and a few breaks of sun will show between clouds. A few pop-up showers will still be possible, but not all areas will see rain. Winds will be breezy from the northwest, holding highs to the upper 40s and low 50s.

Skies will partially or completely clear tonight, allowing temperatures to drop down into the low and mid 30s. Areas of frost are likely, especially across the southern half of the region and in typical cold pockets. For some areas, the growing season officially begins on May 1, so frost advisories have been issued. However, the coldest areas most at risk for frost will not start having Frost Advisories issued until May 10th or 15th. This does not mean frost will not occur in these areas; on the contrary, frost will be even more likely in these typically colder regions.

Friday

What: A few showers.

Light west winds will be in place on Friday. Much of the day will be dry, though a few pop up showers will be possible in the afternoon. A small low pressure system passing through may bring some more widespread showers during the late afternoon and evening to the southern half of the region. A few snowflakes could mix in after sunset.

High temperatures will be around or slightly over 50 degrees. Another chance for frost will develop Friday night as skies partially or completely clear after midnight, with lows ranging through the low and mid 30s, similar to the night before.

Saturday

What: A few showers with some sun in between.

Light west-northwest winds will blow on Saturday. A few sporadic showers are possible, but most areas should be dry most of the day, and many will not see any rain at all. It will be a chilly day, though, with highs again hovering around 50 degrees.

Saturday night will be similar to the previous two with areas of frost likely with partly cloudy skies sending temperatures down into the 30s.

Sunday

What: Clouds and some sun. Small chance for a stray shower.

The chances for rain on Sunday are not zero, but are low enough that I removed the rain icon from the 7-day graphic. Any rain that falls will be very light and brief. Sunshine will still be limited to brief breaks between clouds. Winds will increase over Saturday with a few gusts reaching 30 mph, coming in from the northwest. Afternoon highs will be in the low 50s.

Winds will turn to the southwest Sunday night, holding temperatures in the 40s overnight with no risk for frost.

Monday

What: A few showers.

The chances for rain will go up slightly on Monday, particularly late in the day. At this time, the rain looks as though it will remain showery at most, and some areas should get through the daytime hours with little to no rainfall. Rain chances will increase further after sunset. Southwest winds will be blustery, helping temperatures inch upward into the low 60s.

Tuesday

What: Scattered showers and storms.

A front will pass through the region on Tuesday. Temperatures may push well into the 60s ahead of the front, which may lead to some afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The chances for thunderstorms will likely go up and down in the forecast over the coming days, so stay tuned. Southwest winds will be blustery early, but should turn and weaken late.

Late Next Week

A stronger weather system looks likely with higher rain amounts Wednesday into Thursday. Wednesday may still be able to break into the 60s, but Thursday looks cooler. Temperatures will be chilly on Friday, with frost possible both Thursday and Friday nights. Cool, showery weather will likely remain through the weekend and beyond with no substantial changes to our overall weather pattern expected any time soon.
