This graphic represents an average over the entire Finger Lakes region. Localized variations should be expected.

A push of warm air will get highs well into the 60s to near 70 degrees Monday and Tuesday, but a slow moving front will bring a soaking rain Tuesday night and Wednesday with cool temperatures the remainder of the week. Wednesday and especially Thursday night may have some frosty pockets.

Monday

What: Sun and clouds.

A little early morning cloudiness and a stray shower is associated with an influx of warmer air. Skies will be sunny much of the day with some afternoon fair weather clouds mixing in. Steady southwest winds will push highs in the upper half of the 60s with some areas reaching 70 degrees. South winds will continue tonight, keeping temperatures in the upper half of the 50s overnight. A few stray showers or even a thunderstorm will be possible after midnight.

Tuesday

What: Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

A cold front will slowly approach from the west on Tuesday. Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will be possible in the morning, becoming more numerous in the afternoon. However, the rain will not be evenly distributed across the region. Western areas (Rochester, Canandaigua, Dansville) are more likely to see frequent showers or steadier rain develop, while the central and northeastern Finger Lakes (Geneva, Auburn, Ithaca, Syracuse) will be most at risk for thunderstorms. Any storms could contain some gusty winds. The eastern Southern Tier (Elmira, Owego, Binghamton) may still see some showers or storms, but will have the lowest chances for daytime rain.

South winds will be gusty at times and will keep highs around 70 degrees. Rain will become more widespread overnight with temperatures falling to the mid 40s as the front moves through.

Wednesday

What: Periods of rain.

The front will be slow to move on Wednesday as low pressure moves along it. Periods of widespread rain are likely throughout the day. Between Tuesday and Wednesday, many areas will see between one and one and a half inches of rain, but locally higher amounts are possible. Temperatures will not move much Wednesday and may even drop for some areas. Highs will generally be in the mid and upper 40s.

Thursday

What: Sun and clouds.

High pressure will nose in on Thursday, clearing out the rain and leaving sunshine and some fair weather clouds. If skies clear quick enough Wednesday night, there may be some pockets of frost early Thursday. Afternoon highs will be in the low 50s. Northwest winds will be around 10 mph.

Friday

What: A few showers.

Friday will start with temperatures in the mid and upper 30s, so at least a few frosty pockets will be possible. Clouds will increase and scattered showers will develop. This will not be an all day rain, and some areas may dodge all of the showers and stay dry. Temperatures will be in the low and mid 50s.

Saturday

What: A few showers.

Frost is not expected Saturday morning at this time with south winds taking over, keeping morning lows in the 40s. Afternoon highs will reach the mid and upper 50s. Like Friday, there will be a few showers here and there, but nothing widespread or heavy.

Sunday

What: A few showers.

Temperatures will continue to nudge upward on Sunday with highs around 60 degrees. A few more stray showers may be possible with a chance for more widespread rain Sunday night.

Next Week

Heavy rain is currently not expected next week, though occasional showers will continue to be a frequent occurrence. There will likely be dry days here and there, too, though. Temperatures are a bit uncertain, but most likely will be in the 50s and 60s most of the time.
