A rainy Wednesday morning will give way to some thunderstorms late this afternoon. Temperatures will remain on the cooler side for a couple more days with scattered showers. By the weekend, dry, warm weather will take over with a first taste of Summer early next week.
Wednesday
What: Morning rain. Late afternoon thunderstorms.
Areas of rain will continue this morning as a warm front pushes into the region. There should then be a lull in the precipitation from the midday into the mid afternoon, during which time some sun should shine. During the late afternoon, showers and thunderstorms should develop and slowly drift eastward. The highest chance for thunderstorms will be between 4-8 PM.
Temperatures will climb into the low 60s this afternoon. South winds will be blustery with a few gusts over 30 mph from time to time. Stronger gusts within any thunderstorms will be possible.
Precipitation overnight will be limited to a couple stray showers with winds turning to the northwest. Lows will be in the mid 40s.
Thursday
What: Scattered showers.
Low pressure will slowly move to the east on Thursday. Cooler air will move in with highs mainly in the low and mid 50s on northwest winds. For much of the day, the low will be positioned in a way that most of the precipitation is off to our west and east, with just a few showers between over the Finger Lakes. Rain chances will increase Thursday evening and into the night.
Friday
What:Â Showers winding down.
The low will continue to drift eastward on Friday with some scattered showers lingering over the region. The morning will have a higher chance for rain than the afternoon. Winds will still be from the northwest, but light, and afternoon highs should reach the low 60s.
Saturday
What: Warming up.
Warmer air will push into the region on Saturday on southwest winds. A stray shower or storm cannot be totally ruled out, but most areas should stay dry during the day. Rain chances will increase slightly Saturday night. Temperatures will peak in the mid 70s with nighttime temperatures remaining in the 50s.
Sunday
What: Sun and clouds.
Once again, a stray shower cannot be ruled out, but at this time, Sunday looks like a mostly dry day. Temperatures will once more push well into the 70s during the day and remain in the 50s overnight.
Monday
What: Sun and clouds.
Monday looks like it will follow Sunday’s example, only with even warmer temperatures. Sun and clouds are likely, though a stray brief shower cannot be totally ruled out at this point. Many areas should be at or above 80 degrees. There is a chance temperatures could shoot up even higher.
Tuesday
What: Sun and clouds. Hot?
Tuesday will be more of the same, though the chances for a dry day are less certain. If anything does pop up, it will have plenty of fuel to work with, so thunderstorms would be possible. Temperatures are uncertain, but low to mid 80s are a conservative forecast at this point. Some models have the broad valleys and urban areas making a run at 90 degrees even—a classic May swing from “where is Spring?” to suddenly feeling like summer.
Mid-Late Next Week
A cold front will likely move through the area on Wednesday with showers and potentially thunderstorms. It is too early to tell what, if any, severe threat may accompany the storms. Temperatures will fall behind the front with highs mainly in the 60s to end next week and for next weekend. Outside of the front, precipitation looks limited, though there could always be a small system or two that brings some showers here or there.
