A soaking rain is ahead for Saturday with lingering showers Sunday morning. Only a few stray spits of rain are expected on Monday, with temperatures climbing into the 70s. Much of the next week or two beyond this weekend look dry and mild.

Friday

What: Increasing clouds

Friday will be dry with sunshine gradually becoming filtered by increasing and thickening clouds. Winds will be light from the east and southeast with highs in the mid 60s. Overnight temperatures will be propped up by thickening cloud cover, with lows reaching the upper 40s to the south and low 50s to the north. A few rain showers may arrive in the southwestern areas before sunrise.

Saturday

What: Rainy

Rain will spread from southwest to northeast across the region during the morning hours. By midday, most areas except perhaps the northeastern reaches of the Finger Lakes should be locked into steady rain. Rain will fall through the afternoon and into the evening, gradually tapering to showers overnight. Rain amounts will vary, but most areas should see between a half inch and an inch of rain with locally higher amounts. Temperatures will change little with the rain, with some areas, particularly in the south, not getting above 50 degrees. Southeast winds will become blustery with speeds around 15 mph and some gusts over 30 mph.

Sunday

What: Scattered showers

Scattered showers will continue to move through the area Sunday morning, but these should become few and far between by the afternoon. Some sun may poke out between clouds, but there probably won’t be much more sun than that. Temperatures will bounce back a bit, reaching the mid 60s. Southeast winds will be breezy in the morning, but will turn to the south and lose speed during the afternoon.

Memorial Day (Monday)

What: A few showers

Monday, Memorial Day, will be the type of day where the sun mixes with fluffy clouds that grow in size and may end up covering much of the sky at times. A few of the larger clouds will produce some brief showers, but not even enough to necessarily wet the pavement completely. Many areas will probably stay completely dry, and those that do see rain should only have short time periods where it spits a little. Winds will be light and variable on Monday with highs pushing into the low 70s.

Tuesday

What: Sun and clouds

Tuesday looks quiet and mild with sun and clouds and a high at least in the mid 70s. A few of the urban valley locations of the Southern Tier could flirt with 80 degrees.

Wednesday-Thursday

What: A couple showers

A small weather system will likely pass through sometime Wednesday or Thursday next week. Wednesday seems to be the favored day, but a few projections even have a few showers around on both days. Whenever it rains during this period, the showers will be similar to Monday: light, sporadic, and short lived. Temperatures will remain warm with highs well into the 70s.

Late Next Week & Beyond

The overall pattern as we close out May and open up June will be quiet, mild weather. The chances for rain look quite low throughout this time period, though that doesn’t mean a small system won’t bring a few spits of rain here or there, such as on Wednesday-Thursday as described above. Temperatures may make a dip next weekend with a chance for some 40s overnight and 60s during the daytime, but overall, 50s and 70s respectively are more likely as we head into June.
