Update Issued: 2:20 PM
Update Expires: 7 PM
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for the eastern Finger Lakes region, in addition to areas further east. The watch runs until 9 PM, but most of our area should be cleared from the severe weather threat by 7 PM or so.
Currently there is one cell with a sever thunderstorm warning north of Ithaca. No storm reports have been associated with this storm yet, but please let me know if you see wind damage or hail. As I write this, the storm is hitting my house and there are a couple small hailstones. *Update* Shortly after posting, I had 5 minutes of hail up to 1″ in diameter.
Elsewhere there are numerous scattered storms. These will all need to be monitored for further strengthening.
The severe weather probability associated with the watch are very typical for our area and in line with most other severe thunderstorm watches we have seen this year. That being said, it is always wise to take warnings seriously and seek shelter.
