Welcome to FLXweather.com!

Welcome to the NEW Finger Lakes Weather website!

I designed this website with a couple of particular goals in mind. First and foremost is to bring the Finger Lakes a consolidated website with all of the weather information you need to know what the weather has in store and to stay safe when severe weather strikes. The forecasts you see on this site and my social media profiles (which conveniently have links placed at the top of the screen) are completely hand made by me, meteorologist Drew Montreuil. I do not feed in straight model data and display it as a ‘forecast’, which is often (but not always) the case when you type your zipcode into a website and get a location-specific forecast.

Another thing you will not find on Finger Lakes Weather is hype— the scare-tactics often used by those in the weather media to generate viral posts of super storms that will dump feet of snow over thousands of square miles or super outbreaks of severe weather weeks in advance. I guarantee you that I will not ‘cry wolf’ and blow something out of proportion. I take my time with a forecast, explain my reasoning and confidence (or lack there of) in an event happening and inform you of other possible scenarios. I do not downplay serious events when they are likely to happen, but I take great care in each and every forecast I make and how the public will react to it.

There are two parts to Finger Lakes Weather. The first is the free, public information. This includes every webpage and every forecast you will find on flxweather.com. I would not be able to meet my goal of providing the entire Finger Lake with accurate, useful information that could keep them safe if I charge a subscriber’s fee for ‘premium information’. Instead, to support this website and my career in serving you, I rely on you generosity to donate if able, and to simply spread the word about my work if you can’t.

The second part of my business is detailed, location-specific forecasts for paying clients. This is for business and organizations that need to go beyond the normal forecast in order to keep their business running smoothly and to save them time, resources and money. Since these forecasts require extra work and precise details, often time taking complex terrain that can wildly alter the weather into consideration, these services do have a fee attached. However, I aim to keep my services affordable for all types of businesses and offer small businesses, non-profit organizations and public/private school districts discounts.

You will also find current weather information on flxweather.com, including radar, current observations and detailed weather alert information. This data relies on sources outside of flxweather.com and thus may be unavailable or out dated at times. As with any weather forecasts online, use the information you see with common sense, stay safe, and remember that you are ultimately responsible for your actions. I hope you find this website useful and use it on a daily basis. Please help spread the word by sharing flxweather with your friends and family! Thank you!

Our cousin from Florida met you this summer at Homer-On-The-Green and sent us your web site. I just knew it was you when I opened it. Great Work! Nice to see a Grotonian making a positive contribution to the Fingerlakes. Sheldon and I wish you the best!

Congratulations, Drew, on getting this website running! I enjoy your well-written customized forecasts, and have been telling my weather-loving friends about your business. I hope it prospers! Just one small typo in your opening “Welcome” message—that hyphen after “hype-” should be an em dash. If you can’t get your computer to produce an em dash—which is much longer than a hyphen—then you can use two hyphens one after the other (this was standard practice in the days of typewriters). On my iMac, the special command for this punctuation is shift-plus-option-plus-hyphen-key.
