More Comfortable Behind Front
A refreshing north wind has set up behind an overnight cold front, pushing Monday’s heat and humidity south.
The Finger Lakes is still in close proximity to the front, which is draped over northern Pennsylvania this morning.
Some clouds are therefore still in the area, though rain showers have already moved on.
Dry air is moving in from the north, which should result in a decrease in cloud cover through the morning and into the afternoon. In fact, the afternoon should be rather sunny across the region.
Temperatures will be comfortably warm, with highs today reaching the mid 70s.
The weather will be much nicer for sleeping tonight, with temperatures dropping back into the 50s.
Showers Pass By Wednesday
The front will not make it too far south today. A disturbance will then track along the front on Wednesday, which could result in some showers for our region.
There are still uncertainties to be resolved on how far north the rain will come. Taking the middle-road of the different options, I would expect a few scattered showers from time to time on Wednesday. Scenarios where it doesn’t rain at all, or where some steadier rain moves in, are both possible as well. Either way, it will be a close call.
Areas closer to the Pennsylvania state line will have the best chance for rain. Rain may fall at any time tomorrow.
The amount of rain will have an impact on the temperatures as well.
A cloudy, showery day will have highs struggling to 70 degrees. A dry, partly cloudy day could push 80 degrees.
These questions should be all cleared up early Wednesday morning.
Nice End of the Week
Behind Wednesday’s disturbance, the weather will again turn pleasant.
Thursday will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Temperatures will top out in the low to mid 70s.
A north wind will also blow on Thursday and could gust to 25 mph at times.
Friday will start sunny, but some thin clouds will filter the sunshine later in the day.
Temperatures Friday will be warmer as winds turn towards the south. Expect highs around 80 degrees, if not a bit warmer.
The weekend is looking unsettled, but the details will need to be worked out further on what we can actually expect.
Summer Plans for FLX Weather
In April, I held a fund-drive in an effort to propel Finger Lakes Weather forward. I am pleased to report that, starting in July, I will be able to focus on Finger Lakes Weather more substantially.
At first, much of the work will be done behind the scenes, but through the summer, new features should start popping up. These include revamped and improved alerts and zip-code forecast pages, more maps and graphics, and weather forecast videos.
While my fund-drive in April was successful, I could still use some additional funding to make Finger Lakes Weather sustainable for the longer term.
