Goodbye Heat & Humidity

A morning cold front will sweep away the heat and humidity from the Finger Lakes, resulting in a refreshing, but breezy Friday.

Cooler, drier air is already starting to move into the Finger Lakes as early morning showers depart to the east. Clear skies over Canada are just starting to enter western New York as of 7 am.

Over the course of the morning, clear skies will track east and overtake the region. Underneath the bright blue sky, a gusty northwest wind will develop in the wake of the cold front.

Top wind gusts today will be between 30-35 mph for most areas.

Temperatures will rise just a few degrees today, topping out in the mid 70s for most areas. Dewpoints will settle in the upper 40s and low 50s, a refreshing change from the 70º+ dewpoints of the last week.

The winds will settle down this evening as high pressure builds in. Temperatures will quickly fall back through the 60s and into the 50s.

Saturday will be similar to Friday, only without the gusty winds. High temperatures should also reach a couple degrees higher into the upper 70s.

Sunday will be warmer, with highs into the mid 80s on a gentle south wind. However, the humidity will remain quite low, so it should not feel too hot, especially after our recent weather.

Dry Into Next Week

High pressure will continue to control our weather into most of next week. More sunny, dry weather should be the result.

There will be a small chance for a few showers to pop up on Tuesday, but most areas will probably see very little if any rain.

A better chance for rain may develop towards next weekend, but that is too far out to be certain.

Most of the Finger Lakes region is currently listed in the pre-drought  ‘Abnormally Dry’ classification. The coming week will certainly not help matters at all.

Temperatures Monday may approach 90 degrees again for some areas, but with humidity remaining reasonable.

The front that may touch off a shower or two on Tuesday will send temperatures back into the 80s for the rest of the week.
