Wet Weekend Forecast…for some
The front that moved south through the Finger Lakes on Friday has stalled out, allowing rain to sneak back into parts of the Finger Lakes region.
Along this front, an area of low pressure is triggering showers and thunderstorms Saturday morning. Rain is widespread across the Southern Tier and Southern Finger Lakes.
I expect that most of this rain will slowly drift east of the Finger Lakes by the late morning or early afternoon hours.
Some of the rain may be heavy and there will be some lightning from time to time. The flash flooding risk is minimal but will have to be watched. Numerous flood warnings have already been issued in Pennsylvania, but they have had much more rain recently.
By this afternoon, clearing skies may start to work in from the northwest. How far east and south this gets will remain to be seen, but areas that do see several hours of sun could shoot up into the low 80s.
Clouds will increase again after midnight tonight and into early Sunday morning. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are uncertain, but a real possibility all across the Finger Lakes.
Next Week Preview
The stalled out front will hang around for Monday and Tuesday as well.
Showers and thunderstorms will be likely on both days, especially during the afternoon hours.
The second half of the week is less certain. Multiple low pressure systems may take aim at the area, each bringing a chance for heavy rain and thunder. However, the path and strength of these lows is still very much up in the air, and the rain could easily be lighter or completely miss the area.
The timing of any rain will have a large impact on the temperature as well. Rain-free periods with sunshine could see temperatures push well into the 80s.
Next week is looking very muggy once again all throughout the week.
