Early Week Rain Chances
High pressure has been in control of our weather all weekend but will yield to a weak weather system today.
Clouds have already begun to move into the Finger Lakes early Monday morning. Some sunshine will filter through the clouds even into the afternoon. Eventually though, it should become rather cloudy.
A couple stray showers cannot be ruled out this afternoon, but the atmosphere is dry and not favorable for precipitation. Much of the rain today will evaporate before reaching the ground. What rain does reach the surface will be very light and very scattered.
Temperatures today should reach the mid and upper 70s for highs. Temperatures will then be slow to drop this evening as south winds increase.
The chances for rain will be highest after midnight as widespread showers and a few embedded thunderstorms move through the region. Many areas will see less than a quarter-inch of rain, but a few localized areas could see over a half-inch. Flooding is not expected.
Much of the rain will move out before sunrise on Tuesday, but a few showers may linger into the morning, especially over eastern areas.
The remainder of Tuesday should be dry with the exception of one or two isolated late afternoon showers. Most areas will not see rain after early Tuesday morning. Temperatures Tuesday should reach the upper 70s to near 80 degrees during the early afternoon. Late afternoon temperatures will drop into the low and mid 70s.
Mainly Dry Late Week
Much of the remainder of the week will be dry.
Wednesday should be a sunny day before some puffy cumulus clouds develop during the afternoon. A few of these may develop enough for some isolated showers or thunderstorms. This small chance for precipitation will continue into the evening. Many areas will probably not see rain.
Temperatures Wednesday will be warm with many areas above 80 degrees and a few northern areas pushing 85 degrees.
Thursday will be dry and sunny with just some scattered bits of cloud cover. No precipitation is expected. Friday should be similar, though it is a bit early to completely rule out a stray shower late in the day.
Temperatures Thursday will be just a touch cooler than Wednesday with highs closer to 80 degrees. Friday’s temperatures will again be near or slightly above 80 degrees.
The chances for rain and thunderstorms will increase this weekend. Saturday afternoon in particular could turn stormy. However, it is still quite early in the forecast process and the details will need to be worked out over the coming week.
