Another Day, More of the Same

Thunderstorms will again be possible in the Finger Lakes both Sunday and Monday as a parade of small weather systems continues.

As of 6 AM this morning, the next disturbance in the atmosphere was located over western Ohio. A small extension of this was also moving into western New York.

Two areas of rain and thunderstorms, one near Buffalo and the other near Cleveland, were tracking northeast.

The Buffalo rain will clip the northwestern Finger Lakes this morning. The Cleveland storms have a more direct line towards the Finger Lakes and should have some time to redevelop and/or strengthen by the afternoon.

Additional storms could also develop, depending on the evolution of these first two areas. Look for rain and thunderstorms any time after noon today, though it will not rain the entire afternoon.

Like the last several days, the storms will be semi-organized into clusters and line segments. Frequent lightning, a few damaging winds gusts, and very heavy rain will be possible. Some localized flash flooding is possible.

While the overall severe threat is isolated and low, there could be a rotating storm or two that prompts a tornado warning. No tornadoes have been confirmed so far this week, and in the very unlikely chance that a tornado does touch down, it would likely be weak and brief.

Some hail could also be possible but is less likely than damaging winds.

Monday will bring another day of the same before we get a break in the weather Tuesday.

Temperatures will be warm, but not excessively hot, topping out in the mid 80s before rain-cooled air spreads across the region.
