Wednesday Thunderstorm Setup
A large area of rain and embedded thunderstorms will move through the Finger Lakes this morning.
This precipitation is out ahead of a weather system that will track from eastern Ohio this morning into New England this afternoon.
The rain this morning should last several hours into the mid and late morning. By the time the rain ends, and the atmosphere will have some time to recover, the main energy with the disturbance will have passed our region by.
Still, one or two isolated thunderstorms may pop up late this afternoon. The chances for this will be greater the further east you go. There is a small chance for some gusty winds or small hail with any of these storms.
The greater severe threat will set up far to the east over eastern New York and New England.
The chance for a couple showers will continue overnight and into Thursday. Both Thursday morning and Thursday afternoon could see showers popping up as a cold front slowly works through the region.
High temperatures today should climb to near or just above 80 degrees this afternoon. Thursday will top out in the mid 70s.
Quiet for the Weekend
Quiet weather will once again become the norm for our region through the weekend.
Friday will have the classic late summer feel behind Thursday’s cold front.
Morning lows will range from the low 50s in the western Southern Tier to the upper 50s in the heart of wine country. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.
Expect sun and clouds with a bit of a northwest breeze, gusting to around or just above 20 mph.
Saturday will be very similar, with morning lows through the 50s and highs within a couple degrees on either side of 70. The breeze will be a bit less with sun and clouds persisting.
Temperatures will bounce back a bit on Sunday with low and mid 70s. A stray shower could sneak in from the east for Central New York or the eastern Finger Lakes.
There should be no major surprises for the final week of August, either. Temperatures will hold in the 70s with perhaps a day or two of low 80s. There will be one or two small chances for rain, but most of the week looks quiet and dry.
