No Two Days Alike

Last week, the weather was nearly the same every day. This week, every day seems to be different.

The variable pattern will continue today as we transition from a cool, at times cloudy Tuesday to a warm and sunny Wednesday.

Clear skies are in abundance this morning across the Finger Lakes with a few areas of fog in the typical valley locations across the Southern Tier. Temperatures are starting in the 40s and 50s, though warmer air is already being pushed in aloft.

The surge of warmth today will be courtesy of high pressure moving through the Mid Atlantic and a low pressure moving into the Upper Great Lakes. A broad south and southwest flow has set up between the two pressure systems.

Very few clouds are expected today, so we should be able to take full advantage of the incoming warm air. Look for temperatures to rise in a hurry, gaining 30-35 degrees from this morning to the afternoon. Most areas will top out in the upper 70s. A few areas from Rochester to Geneva will be around 80 degrees.

Some clouds will filter in overnight, keeping temperatures within a few degrees on either side of 60.

Rain will be back in the area for Thursday. The chances for a steady, widespread rain are decreasing though.

A few showers may drift through during the predawn and early morning hours, but the best chance for showers will be from the late morning to the early afternoon. A few isolated showers may linger as late as sunset. Most areas will see well under a quarter inch of rain.

Temperatures Thursday look to top out near 70 degrees.

Friday will have the sunshine of today and the temperatures of Thursday. Look for sun-filled skies and highs around 70.

Weekend Weather Forecast

Saturday will be summery as a new cold front approaches the region. Warm temperatures and some humidity will precede the front. After morning lows in the low 60s, temperatures should shoot into the low or even mid 80s by the early afternoon.

As the front rolls in, showers and thunderstorms will develop. Early indications are that there will be some strong winds in the low and mid-levels of the atmosphere, so the potential for some stronger storms will need to be considered as we draw closer to the weekend.

High pressure will build in behind the front for Sunday. Expect sunny and cooler conditions with highs in the 60s.

A significant push of warm air will surge north next week. After highs in the 70s Monday, 80s will be possible Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A very strong cold front is expected thereafter, and highs Friday and into next weekend will probably stick in the 50s.
