Weekend Weather Forecast
The weather over the Finger Lakes this weekend will vary as one weather system pulls away and another approaches.
Clouds, fog, and drizzle behind Friday’s rain are in place early Saturday and will persist through the morning.
During the afternoon, the atmosphere should dry out some, but exactly how much remains to be seen. Look for a few breaks of sunshine and a decrease in fog and drizzle. There is a chance it turns more sunny than cloudy.
Partly to mostly cloudy skies will linger into tonight, with a bit of early sun for Sunday. Clouds will then be on the increase Sunday morning with rain showers arriving for the afternoon.
While the precipitation in the Finger Lakes and Central New York should remain all rain, just to the east, freezing rain will be possible. Those traveling towards the Catskills or Capital Region should be aware.
Temperatures will top out in the upper 30s and low 40s both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday night’s temperatures will fall into the upper 20s, while Sunday night remains in the mid and upper 30s.
Winds this weekend will be light. Saturday’s winds will start from the west before turning calm late in the day. After calm winds through the night, winds will increase from the southeast on Sunday. Wind gusts should remain under 20 mph until perhaps Sunday evening.
Looking Ahead
Sunday’s weather system will remain in the area for Monday, bringing more clouds and periods of rain. The rain Monday should be on and off but seems most likely during the first half of the day.
Temperatures on Monday are uncertain with cold and warm air clashing over the region. While Western New York may jump into the 50s, and areas to the east stay in the low and mid 30s, our region will be in the middle with 40s and a few upper 30s.
Clouds and a few scattered showers or flurries will be possible on Tuesday with some limited lake effect snow for Wednesday. Snow accumulations look minimal to non-existent.
Tuesday’s highs should be in the low 40s again with mid 30s on Wednesday.
More 40s are likely later next week with chances for rain on Friday and into the weekend. If cold and snow are more your flavor, the first full week of January looks to be more favorable for a return to wintry conditions.
