Minimal Lake Effect
Clouds will be plentiful across the Finger Lakes today thanks to the Great Lakes and an incoming disturbance.
Clouds are spread across the region this morning but tend to be a bit thicker across the northern half. A few snow showers are coming off Lake Erie, mostly between Buffalo and Rochester.
Not much change is expected throughout the day, though some breaks of sunshine will develop across the southern half of the region. Winds will gradually turn more to the southwest, keeping any flurries west of Rochester. Wind speeds will remain light at around 5 mph.
High temperatures will generally be between 30-35 degrees today.
Tonight, a small disturbance will pass through the region, possibly with a few flurries. No accumulation is expected, and most areas will probably not see snow tonight.
Southwest winds will increase on Wednesday with speeds around 10 mph. Clouds will linger in the morning, but sunshine should increase by the midday hours. The sun may be filtered by some thin clouds at times in the afternoon.
Many areas will be near or just above 40 degrees on Wednesday.
Mild Weather Persists
Another small disturbance will pass through the region on Thursday. Light snow showers are likely, possibly mixing with some rain. Precipitation is most likely in the morning.
Nonetheless, temperatures will still make a run at 40 degrees. Most areas will probably end up a couple degrees cooler than Wednesday, though.
A blustery southeast wind will develop on Friday with gusts as high as 30 mph. Sunshine will be filtered by thin clouds early, but then thicker clouds will build in late.
Temperatures should be above 40 for all the region, but most places will not quite reach 45 degrees.
Rain and snow showers move in Friday night and continue into Saturday morning. Any snow accumulations should be limited to higher elevations, but even these areas should see little.
Some sunshine will break through the clouds for the afternoon. Temperatures will top out in the upper 30s to near 40 degrees.
Colder air will build in on gusty west-northwest winds Sunday. Higher elevations will top out in the upper 20s with low 30s elsewhere. Scattered lake effect snow showers will also be possible.
Scattered snow showers will linger into Monday and possibly Tuesday. The greatest chances for accumulations will be along the east shores of the Great Lakes and not in the Finger Lakes region.
High temperatures on Monday will be in the low 30s while Tuesday reaches the mid 30s.
A couple more weak weather systems are likely next week, but these are not expected to bring much precipitation or any significantly cold weather. Cooler temperatures may become more likely towards the end of January, but it is too far in advance to be sure.
