Warmer Weekend
The sun is out this morning in the Finger Lakes, signaling a significant change in our weather pattern over the next week.
High pressure over the Southeast has taken over control of our weather for today. The low pressure that brought the snow the last couple days still remains parked over eastern Canada, but will be too far away for any clouds or to influence our wind direction.
The only influence that low will have today is to keep winds a bit blustery as the high nudges it out of our area. Winds will not be as strong as yesterday, but may still gust to or just over 30 mph. Winds will be coming from the west-southwest as they flow around the high pressure system.
This wind direction, combined with continuous sunshine throughout the day, will give temperatures a noticeable boost. Highs will top out in the mid and upper 50s throughout the region.
Skies will remain clear tonight, but a steady southwest wind will keep temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s.
Sunshine Saturday morning will give way to clouds building in for the afternoon. Temperatures should still get into the low and mid 60s. South winds will gust no higher than 20 mph.
Rain showers will move in sometime Saturday night and continue into Sunday. The best chance for rain will be after midnight Saturday night and during the morning hours Sunday. A few showers will be possible into Sunday afternoon, but they will be more scattered. Some sun may come out between the showers.
Sunday’s highs will settle in the upper 50s.
From Winter to Summer
Monday will be a sunny day with some cooler air briefly moving in behind Sunday’s weather system. Look for morning lows in the low and mid 30s with afternoon highs around 50.
Beyond Monday, it will be another step up as very warm air floods into the region.
Highs on Tuesday should push well into the 70s. Wednesday has a chance at 80 degrees. Temperatures late next week are uncertain, but 70s or even 80s seem likely.
This warm air will be delivered by high pressure that will cross the area Monday, then sit off the coast of the Carolinas the rest of next week.
There may be a couple small disturbances to bring some scattered clouds and a few showers Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. A better chance for rain will come late in the week as a weather system moves into the Great Lakes.
Once that system moves through, temperatures will retreat a bit, but a generally warm pattern looks likely at least through the first week of May.
