Sunny and Dry
A large area of high pressure extends from New England, through the Great Lakes, and the Midwest and central Plains.
This sprawling high will keep our weather sunny and dry through the week as temperatures gradually increase.
This morning is off to a chilly start thanks to clear skies and calm winds beneath the high. The temperature will quickly rise this morning with abundant sunshine. The typical summertime fair-weather cloud cycle will kick in by the mid to late morning, leading to a mix of sun and clouds most of the day.
No rain is expected from any of the clouds and skies will go back to being mostly clear late this afternoon. In addition to the fair-weather clouds, some thin clouds may skirt across the eastern Finger Lakes at times, mostly east of Cayuga Lake.
Temperatures will push into the mid and upper 70s today thanks to a light southerly breeze. Overnight lows will also be a bit warmer thanks to that breeze, subtle though it will be. Most areas should be in the mid 50s tonight.
Wednesday will be a very similar day to today. Morning sunshine will mix with fair weather clouds and a few thin clouds. Highs will reach the upper 70s, and winds will be light.
There is a very small chance for a brief spit of rain in one or two areas. A completely dry afternoon across the region is more likely, though.
Warming Up
By Thursday, temperatures will start to push into the low 80s. Outside of the slight bump in temperature, there will be little change to the weather. Morning sunshine, afternoon fair weather clouds, and light winds will persist.
Nighttime temperatures will stick close to 60 degrees Thursday night and Friday will see highs push into the mid 80s. Once again, a stray shower cannot be totally ruled out, but any rain will be rare, brief, and isolated.
By the weekend, the rain chances will increase, though it will be far from a wet weekend. Just a few scattered showers will be possible Saturday and Sunday. Several locations will probably end up being missed by the showers and will remain dry through the weekend.
Temperatures will hold steady with low and mid 80s on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday will probably be a couple degrees warmer. Nighttime temperatures will be elevated with lows in the mid and upper 60s.
Hotter weather will build in early next week. Both Monday and Tuesday have a shot at seeing 90s back into the Finger Lakes.
It will remain hot and muggy through next week, but the chances for pop-up showers and storms will increase, likely putting a cap on how hot it will get.
