Weekend Weather Forecast
A mainly quiet weather weekend is ahead for the Finger Lakes, with just a small chance for a few showers while some sunshine should mix in with the clouds.
Friday is starting off with areas of patchy fog across the region. For those areas that do not have fog, there is a good chance for a couple hours of sunshine this morning. Even those that are seeing fog should have it burn off sooner rather than later.
By the late morning, daytime heating will trigger new cloud growth, similar to yesterday. The clouds through the afternoon should be not as thick as yesterday, so occasional glimpses of the sun will not be as rare.
In the waning hours of the afternoon, these clouds should once again dissipate. Areas of fog, as well as an increase in thin clouds higher in the atmosphere, will prevent it from becoming mostly clear this evening.
Winds will be nearly calm once again today, but after sunset, will pick up from the southeast. Overnight wind speeds will be just over 5 mph.
Temperatures will be mild today, reaching highs in the mid 70s. Overnight lows will drop to the upper 50s and low 60s.
Saturday will be a mix of clouds and some sun. There will be multiple layers of cloud, making it tough to pinpoint which areas and which times have the best chance for some sun. A stray shower late in the day cannot be ruled out, mostly west of I-390. Most areas will remain dry.
The wind will increase further after sunrise. Wind speeds will reach 10-12 mph and gusts will mostly be 25-30 mph.
High temperatures Saturday will be in the low and even mid 70s for the I-90 corridor with upper 60s to the south. A few hilltops may stick closer to 65 degrees.
Low pressure will move up the Mid-Atlantic coast on Sunday. This will increase the clouds across the area for the first half of the day. A few scattered showers are possible, especially for Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, and Tioga counties.
The afternoon will trend drier and sunnier, though sun will be more likely for the Rochester area than the aforementioned southeastern locations.
Both winds and temperatures on Sunday will be similar to Saturday. The main differences will be top wind gusts a few mph fewer, and fewer places making it above 70.
The Weather Next Week
Overall, next week looks like a continuation of our mild weather while increasing our sunshine and dry weather.
Monday will probably start off with some clouds, but sunshine will increase and become abundant by the afternoon.
The sunshine will team up with southerly winds to push highs back into the mid 70s.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny except for some thin clouds out ahead of a weak front. Clouds will increase Tuesday night ahead of the front and some showers may make it in by dawn Wednesday.
High temperatures Tuesday will be into the mid 70s and a few places could reach the upper 70s.
Scattered showers will be possible on Wednesday. The chances for rain do not appear to be too high, though, and some areas may not see any. Clouds and perhaps some drizzle will linger into Thursday.
Temperatures will take a slight dip with this front. Highs Wednesday look to be in the low 70s while Thursday hovers around 70 degrees.
Friday will be near or just above 70 as thin clouds filter the sunshine. These clouds will mark the approach of a stronger front that will move through next weekend. Some heavy rain could fall with this front, but the details are uncertain this far out.
Regardless, cooler air will move in behind this system for the following week. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal averages, which means highs struggling to reach even 60 degrees.
