Sunny and warm throughout the week

High Pressure Dominates

A large area of high pressure will remain over far eastern Canada through the middle of the week before it is replaced by another high pressure system in the same location.

Both of these highs will keep a firm grip on the weather in our region with sunny, dry conditions.

Cloud cover will be next to non-existent on Monday and Tuesday with start to finish clear, blue skies.

Winds today will be from the northeast at 5-10 mph, while tomorrow will have east and southeast winds around 5 mph.

Most areas should warm into the 65-70 degree range today, though a few pockets are likely to sneak above 70 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will have a wider range of variation, with mid 40s near Lake Ontario and mid 30s in portions of the Southern Tier. Most areas should end up somewhere around 40 degrees.

Tuesday will be a bit warmer with most areas getting to or above 70 degrees. Only along the shore of Lake Ontario, where an afternoon lake breeze will kick in, will temperatures remain in the 60s. Again, a few pockets of even warmer temperatures could send a few locations closer to 75 degrees.

The temperatures Tuesday night will also trend upward slightly, with most areas staying between 40-45 degrees. Isolated warm and cooler pockets are likely.

Winds will be more northerly on Wednesday but with light speeds at or under 5 mph. A few thin clouds will be introduced with little to no impact on the available sunshine.

These subtle changes will be the result of the first high dissipating and the second high building in across Canada to our north. Nonetheless, most areas will be in the mid 70s.

All three days will have very dry air with afternoon relative humidity values under 35 percent. While the spring brushfire season is winding down, the annual burn ban remains in place and due caution should be exercised with the dry, sunny conditions.

Late Week Warmth

As we head into the latter half of the week and approach the weekend, both temperatures and moisture will creep upwards.

On Thursday, light east winds will blow with a few more clouds than on Wednesday. Most of these clouds will again be thin with little impact on the sunshine.

Temperatures will push toward 80 degrees. Not all locations will get that warm, but some of the typically warmer areas will likely get over 80 degrees. Most areas should be a degree or two on either side of 80.

The air will still be dry, but not as much so, with afternoon relative humidity values around 40 percent.

By Friday, winds will turn more southerly but will stay light. Clouds will continue to increase, but there should still be plenty of sunshine as well. The typically warmer northern tier of the region will see highs into the 80s, while the southern areas stick to the mid and upper 70s.

Dewpoints will push into the mid and upper 50s. The humidity probably will not be noticeable, but afternoon relative humidity values will thus stay close to 50 percent.

This weekend, the moisture will increase enough that stray afternoon showers and thunderstorms may pop up. Neither Saturday nor Sunday is expected to have widespread rain. Saturday looks to have a slightly better chance for afternoon showers and storms, but that remains uncertain this far out.

Regardless, highs both Saturday and Sunday should be well into the 70s if not near or above 80 degrees. Dewpoints should climb into the low or even mid 60s, making it feel a little muggy for some.

A cold front is expected on Monday, which will break the warm, dry weather for a few days at least.
