Trending Briefly Dry
A weak area of low pressure remains parked to our north but is weakening and will dissipate today.
Another bundle of atmospheric energy is rotating around the low and into our area this morning. Scattered showers dot the region, primarily across the northern half so far.
Over time, the focal point for showers will transfer to the southeastern Finger Lakes. Rain is most likely in these areas from midday into the mid-afternoon. By the late afternoon, only a few stray showers will linger in the area.
Temperatures will be held down by clouds and showers, though some sunshine will be possible before the day ends. Look for highs to reach the upper 40s and low 50s with a few urban areas reaching the mid 50s.
Winds will be light and variable today, but should eventually end up out of the northwest with speeds around 5 mph.
Skies will continue to clear tonight, though it may not become mostly clear until after midnight. Temperatures will drop to around 40 this evening and then into the low and mid 30s overnight.
Morning sunshine is likely on Thursday, but fair weather clouds will bubble up and may turn skies mostly cloudy for a time Thursday late morning and afternoon. A few stray drips of rain cannot be totally ruled out, but probably a minimum of 98 percent of the area will remain completely dry.
Temperatures will get a small boost from the partial sun, despite nearly calm winds once again. Look for highs in the mid and upper 50s, with a few places hitting 60 degrees.
Thursday evening will start clear, but clouds will build in after midnight. These clouds may still be thin enough to allow a little filtered sunshine early Friday, but the clouds will only get thicker. Morning lows Friday will be around 40 degrees with a noticeable southeast wind developing.
More Rainy Weather
Rain will gradually move across the Finger Lakes on Friday from southwest to northeast. It will be a slow process, and most areas will probably not see much rain until the afternoon. Some areas like Cortland and Syracuse may not see rain until late in the afternoon.
The rain will be widespread, so once it begins, it should fall steadily, albeit lightly, into the nighttime hours.
Temperatures on Friday will top out mainly in the upper 50s.
Southeast winds will blow steadily near 10 mph during the day but will increase to near 15 mph after sunset. Gusts could approach 40 mph, especially over higher terrain.
These winds, along with occasional rain showers, will continue through Saturday morning. Both the winds and showers should decrease during the mid to late afternoon. Saturday’s rain will be more hit-or-miss than Friday’s but should still be plentiful enough that most areas remain wet throughout the day.
Saturday will start out with temperatures in the mid 40s. Afternoon highs will once again be in the upper 50s, though if the rain ends soon enough, and some sun works out, some western areas could end up warmer.
Sunday is looking like a mixed day, with both some sunshine and some showers. Rain is especially possible during the afternoon hours.
South-southwest winds will blow at over 10 mph, pushing some warmer air into the region. This should be the warmest upcoming day with highs in the low and mid 60s.
A coastal low is still expected to develop Sunday night into Monday, but the models have started to trend further east with the precipitation. It is still too early to tell for sure how much rain will fall, but if trends hold, Monday will likely end up showery, but not a washout.
Showery weather will hold for most of next week, keeping temperatures locked into the 50s.
