Early Week Weather

Low pressure along the New England coast this morning will continue to pull away from the area today.

Precipitation is already well to our east, leaving just a few flurries or spits of drizzle in the Finger Lakes this morning, along with plenty of clouds. There may still be some slick spots on untreated roads in the southeastern Finger Lakes, but overall, there should be little travel trouble.

This will continue to be the case for most of the region for most of the day. This afternoon, a small piece of energy rotating around the low will clip the northeastern areas with an uptick in snow showers, enhanced by Lake Ontario.

Wayne, northern Cayuga, and Onondaga counties are the most likely to see these, though no accumulation is expected.

A more notable feature of the day will be some blustery winds. Northwest winds will build to around 15 mph during the midday and afternoon with occasional gusts of 30-35 mph.

Temperatures will not change much today, mostly staying close to where they are early this morning in the low and mid 30s.

Tonight, any lake enhanced snow showers will swing north as the wind shifts to the west, then southwest. Some breaks in the cloud cover will appear, especially after midnight. Overnight lows will dip into the mid and upper 20s.

Clouds will continue to break up early Tuesday morning, leaving skies quite sunny for the middle of the day.

Southwest winds will continue with speeds up to 10 mph, helping push temperatures into the upper 30s and low 40s, with a few mid 40s mixed in along and north of I-90 and into the Genesee Valley.

Late in the afternoon and early in the evening, clouds will temporarily increase and a few showers or flurries will be possible. This will mark a cold front with winds turning westerly Tuesday night. Overnight lows should again make it down into the mid and upper 20s.

Late Week Weather

Precipitation from the cold front should be out of the area well before sunrise on Wednesday. Cooler air will build in, producing a limited response from Lake Ontario in the form of some snow showers.

Most of these will stay north of the Finger Lakes, but a few may clip northern Wayne, far northern Cayuga, and northern Onondaga counties late in the day.

Skies will likely be a mix of sun and clouds with winds gradually shifting to the west-northwest. Wind speeds may go over 10 mph for a time during the midday and afternoon hours, but gusts should stay under 30 mph.

Afternoon highs on Wednesday will be similar to today, with mainly low and mid 30s.

A few lake flakes will move south into the area Wednesday night but should dissipate well before dawn Thursday. Winds will shift back to the southwest, removing and lingering lake effect clouds and leaving skies increasingly sunny.

Temperatures will start to nudge upward again, with highs ranging from the mid 30s in some higher elevations to near 40 degrees in some of the usually warmer lower elevations.

Friday, too, will be sunny with just a few passing thin clouds from time to time, especially in the afternoon. Southwesterly flow will continue to bring warm air in, with highs in the mid and upper 40s. A few areas may flirt with 50 degrees.

Mild weather will continue into the weekend, with temperatures a few degrees cooler on Saturday before coming back up to Friday’s levels on Sunday. Saturday will see increasing clouds with a few late showers, while Sunday will see the showers early on.

The weather looks as though it will remain generally quiet next week as well, with temperatures favored to be at or above average.
