Mid Week Weather

A weak area of low pressure will travel southeast from Michigan today to the Carolinas tomorrow.

The only direct impact from this low in the Finger Lakes will be persistent clouds today. The clouds may be thin enough at times to allow some sunshine to filter through. No precipitation will fall from any of the clouds today.

A light south-southeast wind will develop today as it feeds in towards the center of low pressure. Wind speeds will be near or slightly over 5 mph.

Temperatures will mostly be in the mid 30s today. Pockets of upper 30s are expected in the broad valleys from Bath to Owego, and in much of Livingston, Monroe, and western Wayne counties. A few areas in and around Rochester and Dansville may hit 40 degrees.

Light southerly flow will persist tonight with a few breaks in the clouds developing, mostly after midnight. It will not be too cold, with lows in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Wednesday will get a slight boost in temperature, thanks in part to some sunshine breaking through the clouds. The afternoon in particular looks rather sunny and skies may even go so far as to become mostly clear for a while.

Most areas will be near or slightly above 40 degrees. A few mid 40s are possible in the Rochester-Dansville area along I-390. Higher elevations, meanwhile, will stick to the upper 30s.

Stable Weather Pattern

A small weather system will pass through on Thursday with our best, and probably only, chance for precipitation in the coming week. Even this will not amount to much, with just scattered rain and snow showers, mostly in the afternoon.

Temperatures on Thursday should top out near 40 degrees. Southwest winds will blow much of the day, turning to the west late in the afternoon, and to the northwest during the evening. Overnight lows will remain near 30 degrees, though.

Friday will be cloudy and cooler with light north winds and a high in the mid 30s.

A few spits of lake effect snow early Friday morning cannot be ruled out, but the atmosphere will quickly become too dry to support snow. There may even be a little sun late in the day as the clouds begin to dissipate.

By Saturday, skies should be mostly sunny. Morning temperatures will start out in the low 20s and afternoon highs will reach the mid 30s.

Sunday won’t be much different, nor will Monday. Expect a few more clouds on Sunday before skies return to being mostly sunny on Monday.

Temperatures will remain consistent with morning lows in the low 20s and afternoon highs in the mid 30s.

Dry weather is expected to extend throughout the workweek next week. Temperatures will remain steady through mid-week before bumping upwards toward the weekend.
