Mid-Week Weather Forecast
Chilly northwesterly flow is producing a spray of lake effect snow showers across the Finger Lakes this morning.
Some brief periods of moderate snow will be possible as individual bands pass through, especially over the southeastern Finger Lakes. Between snow bands and outside of the snowy areas, a few breaks in the clouds will show.
Those gaps in the clouds will increase later in the morning as the snow showers dwindle. By the afternoon, the snow should end, and skies will become partly cloudy to mostly sunny. Some eastern areas immediately downwind of Lake Ontario may hold on to the clouds through the end of the afternoon.
Winds will be from the northwest and will be blustery with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts of 30-35 mph. The winds will keep temperatures cool, with highs ranging from the mid 20s in some higher terrain to the low 30s in the warmest valley locations. Many areas will stay at or below 30 degrees.
Skies will become mostly clear tonight and wind speeds will drop. Late in the overnight, winds will swing around to the south.
Overnight temperatures will average out to around 20 degrees, but there will be some cold areas, particularly where there is an inch or two of snow on the ground, that could drop well into the 10s.
Thursday will be a flip of today in that it will start out sunny, but then end snowy.
South winds will continue to develop on Thursday ahead of a small, quick moving system. Afternoon temperatures in the mid and upper 30s will be common.
Snow will move in from the west during the late afternoon and early evening. There may be a bit of a burst of snow initially, but it should be short-lived. After the mild day and sunshine, roadways will likely be far too warm for any of this snow to make travel slippery.
Widespread snow will turn over to scattered snow showers for the second half of the evening and the overnight.

Weekend Weather and Next Week
A few snow showers will linger into Friday morning. Like today, the trend will be for these to die away and for sunshine to mix in for the afternoon.
Friday will be a blustery day, with northwest winds gusting over 40 mph in localized areas. Afternoon highs will mostly be in the low 30s, but some higher elevations will not break 30 degrees.
Low pressure will pass by to the south on Saturday, possibly clipping some southern areas with a little light snow. Lake effect will quickly move back in behind the low, with snow showers downwind of Lake Ontario throughout Saturday and Saturday night.
Sunday will also have a quick moving low passing by, this time to the north. Some areas of snow, followed by lake effect east of both Ontario and Erie, are likely.
Between Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, most areas will only see an inch or two of accumulation at most. However, localized areas southeast of Lake Ontario could see several inches of fresh accumulation.
Temperatures on Saturday will be chilly with highs mostly in the mid and upper 20s. Winds will not be as strong as Friday but may still gust to 30 mph on occasion.
Sunday will be a bit warmer with highs in the low and mid 30s. Winds look blustery again, but from the southwest, with gusts of 30-40 mph possible.
Next week still has a large variation in possibilities, but generally looks like there should be at least a couple days with highs around or above 40 degrees. One of those may be Monday, with a mix of a few clouds and sunshine.
