Sunny Early Week Weather
An area of high pressure will build into the region today and retain control of our weather for the next few days.
There are a few lingering areas of lake effect clouds and snow showers this morning. These will hang around for a while longer this morning before high pressure brings them to an end. Sunshine will gradually increase, and by the afternoon, skies should be mostly sunny.
Outside of these few areas, the sun is already out in full force and will likely remain as such throughout the day.
Northwest winds will lose steam throughout the day. By sunset, the wind should be mostly calm. Clear skies and nearly calm winds will persist throughout the night. A slight breeze from the south-southeast may kick up after midnight.
Temperatures will be on the cool side today, with highs ranging from the low 30s in the valleys of the Southern Tier and the Genesee Valley, to the mid 20s for most areas east of Cayuga Lake.
Conditions will be ideal for cooling tonight with temperatures dropping through the 20s this evening and into the low and mid 10s overnight. There may be a few pockets of single digits in small hallows protected from the developing southerly breeze.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny from start to finish. Only a few stray, thin clouds are expected here or there, mostly in the morning hours. Winds will remain light from the south or nearly calm.
The sunshine and southerly flow will be enough to boost temperatures by about 10 degrees over today. Low 40s are likely in the valleys of the Southern Tier and into the Genesee Valley, while mid and upper 30s are common elsewhere.
Tuesday night will be clear, though a few thin clouds may develop after midnight. The southerly flow will become more established with wind speeds up to 10 mph. Temperatures will stick to the mid and upper 20s because of the wind.
Wednesday will continue to be sunny and quiet, though a few more clouds will mix in. Most of these will not block the sunshine in any meaningful way. South winds will continue at around 10 mph, pushing temperatures into the 40s. The eastern hills will see highs near or just above 40 degrees, while the Rochester area and Genesee Valley will be in the upper 40s to possibly near 50 degrees.
Late Week Weather
High pressure will move out of the region later in the week, but there will not be any major weather systems to take its place.
Instead, a couple of weak systems will slide through the area.
On Thursday, spits of rain and a few morning flurries will be possible. Many areas will probably see little to no precipitation. There may even be a few gaps in the clouds for some sunshine.
South winds will persist, with morning lows starting well into the 30s and afternoon highs mostly between 45-50 degrees.
Friday, low pressure will pass to our southeast. Just a few stray rain showers are expected this far to the north and west. Again, most areas will probably stay dry and there may be some breaks of sunshine.
Winds will turn to the northwest at some point on Friday, but temperatures should still manage a high in the low and mid 40s.
The northwest wind will increase Friday night, pushing cold air into the region. By Saturday morning, temperatures should be down into the 10s. Afternoon highs on Saturday will struggle into the mid 20s.
With the chilly air, some limited lake effect snow will be possible south-southeast of Lake Ontario Saturday morning. At this point, accumulations look minimal.
The wind will be back to the south by Sunday, pushing temperatures right back towards 40 degrees with sun and clouds.
Warm weather is likely for most of next week, peaking towards the middle of the week before an unsettled end to the week.
