High Pressure
An area of high pressure over Canada will increase its influence in our weather for the next couple of days.
Many areas are starting off the week with clear, sunny skies this morning. There are a few patches of cloud cover here and there, and this will continue to be the case through the morning hours. The clouds may even increase for a time, though it shouldn’t ever become completely overcast.
Cloud cover should gradually diminish this afternoon, though a stray, brief spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out. Anything that falls is unlikely to be enough to even fully wet the pavement.
A steady northwest wind will blow today with speeds around 10 mph. A few of the highest gusts may approach 30 mph, but probably will not quite reach that speed.
Temperatures will vary across the region. Mid 60s are likely in the warm valleys of the Southern Tier, while some higher elevations and the Lake Ontario shoreline stick to the mid 50s. Most areas will be within a few degrees on either side of 60 degrees.
Tonight, skies will be clear and winds light from the west. Overnight lows will reach the mid and upper 30s for many, with typically warmer urban and lake shore areas staying around 40 degrees.
Tuesday will have abundant sunshine with just a few thin clouds moving in from the southwest later in the day.
Winds will return to a northwesterly direction, then turn more northerly late in the day. Wind speeds will be a touch lower than today. High temperatures will be nearly identical, with the same mid 50s to mid 60s spread.
Thin clouds will continue to stream in Tuesday night as the high pressure system loosens its grip on our region and low pressure tracks into the Great Lakes.
Rain Showers
As this low moves eastward, it will significantly weaken.
Clouds will continue to increase and thicken on Wednesday, and there may be a few rain showers later in the day. The showers will have a hard time overcoming the dry air left behind by the high pressure system, though.
Winds will turn to the east and southeast but with light speeds. Temperatures will be less variable, with most areas a couple degrees on either sign of 60 degrees, but with more areas just under 60 than above it.
Rain chances increase Wednesday night into Thursday. The rain at this point never looks like more than scattered on and off showers with light amounts. The one exception would be if any thunderstorms manage to develop, but this looks rather unlikely at this time.
Some additional showers may be possible later Friday into Saturday morning as the next system moves in. Again, these do not look overly heavy.
Temperatures will cool for Thursday with highs mostly in the mid 50s. Friday will get a small bump ahead of the second system with most areas into the low 60s. The weekend, however, will cool again with mid 50s Saturday and low 50s Sunday.
The weather next week looks relatively quiet, with a gradual increase in temperature.

FYI, total thick overcast right now, 8:13 am, after clear morning. Hunt Hill Rd, Ithaca. Oh well. Hopefully the clearer sky you mentioned will return. Thanks for your great work!
