Staying Unsettled
Gloomy weather will continue for the next few days in the Finger Lakes, though for much of the time, it will not be raining.
There are a few stray showers passing through the area this morning as a frontal boundary settles into the region. This front will not move much today.
Along and east of this boundary, additional rain showers will likely pop up this afternoon. There is some question about how widespread the showers become, but areas east of about Keuka Lake should expect at least a couple showers from time to time this afternoon.
To the west of Keuka Lake, there may still be a stray shower, but they should be few and far between. There may even be a few glimpses of sunshine here and there.
Temperatures will also be warmer to the west, with mid 60s from Elmira to Dansville surrounded by low 60s for many areas west of Seneca Lake. To the east, upper 50s are more likely with higher elevations in the mid 50s.
With the front overhead, winds will be light. Western areas will see winds out of the west, while eastern areas see a southeasterly breezy.
The front will actually move back to the west tonight before dissipating. Southeast winds will take over regionwide. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 40s. No additional rain is expected overnight outside of some spits of drizzle.
Friday should be mostly dry during the morning, though the chances of rain will increase the later it gets. Scattered showers are likely in the afternoon, but they will come and go quickly, leaving a good amount of time without rain.
The wind will get blustery, with south winds increasing to 15 mph. Top gusts will come in around 35 mph.
Temperatures will only react slightly to the south wind, with highs ranging from the upper 50s in and around Cortland County, to the mid 60s in the Genesee Valley, as well as the Rochester and Syracuse areas. Most will top out in the low 60s.
A few more showers may be possible Friday night, but they will be sporadic and light. Overnight lows will drop to the low 40s.
Weekend, Next Week’s Weather
Saturday will remain quite cloudy with winds turning to the west-northwest. It will be another breezy day, with wind speeds again up around 15 mph and gusts of 30-40 mph.
The best chance for some rain showers will be near and north of the Thruway during the afternoon. Some of these may slide further south, too.
Saturday will be cooler thanks to the wind shift. Afternoon highs will mostly be in the low 50s.
Skies will become partly cloudy to mostly clear Saturday night, allowing temperatures to fall back into the low and mid 30s by Sunday morning.
After sunrise Sunday, the sky will quickly fill with fair weather clouds that turn into an overcast blanket. The clouds will start to break up during the second half of the afternoon, so the day should end with at least a little sunshine.
No rain is expected on Sunday. Highs will mainly be in the mid 50s.
Winds will still be a bit on the breezy side, but a bit lighter than on Saturday.
Monday will be mostly sunny throughout the day. Morning lows will again be in the low and mid 30s, while afternoon highs work into the upper 50s.
The next weather maker will arrive late Tuesday into early Wednesday. Rain showers will arrive sometime Tuesday afternoon and continue through the night. A little wet snow may mix in Wednesday morning, but accumulations are highly unlikely.
Late next week should remain mostly dry with unsettled weather next weekend. Temperatures will mainly be in or near the 50s next week before warmer air starts to move in for the weekend and the final days of April.
