Wet Weekend Weather
A series of small weather systems will have a large impact on outdoor plans over the weekend and into next week.
Friday will be a rainy day as low pressure slowly meanders through the region. Numerous showers are expected throughout the day, not tapering off until near or after sunset for many areas.
The rain should generally be light in nature, but a few periods of moderate rainfall are possible this afternoon. There will also be some occasional breaks in the rain, but they will tend to be short-lived.
Including what has already fallen, rain amounts will range from anywhere around a quarter of an inch north of I-90, to approaching an inch in the Southern Tier.
With plenty of clouds, persistent rain, and a light north wind, temperatures will be held down today. I think it will be hard for most places to break above 55 degrees, while some higher elevations may have a hard time getting above 50.
The rain will largely come to an end this evening, though fog and spits of drizzle will be possible overnight. There may be a few stray breaks in the clouds here and there after midnight.
Saturday morning should start out mainly dry, though some patchy fog will linger. Morning lows will mainly be in the mid 40s.
Scattered showers will redevelop during the later morning hours and continue off and on through the afternoon. Western areas seem to be slightly more favored for rain, at least through the first half of the afternoon.
There could be a few isolated rumbles of thunder or even some small hail.
Temperatures, aided by a shift to a southerly wind, will mainly be near or just above 60 degrees. Higher elevations will likely top out in the upper 50s.
Rain will increase Saturday night, possibly becoming steady at times. Temperatures will slip back into the mid and upper 40s.
Scattered showers will stick around throughout Sunday, though they will become fewer and farther between as the day goes on. There is still a little hope for a few peeks of sunshine late in the day. Temperatures will again be around or just above 60 with upper 50s in the hills.
Next Week’s Weather
The unsettled weather pattern will continue early in the week as another slow-moving weather system creeps through.
Monday will probably start out dry, but the chances for rain will increase during the afternoon from northwest to southeast. A couple rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out.
The rain will become steadier by evening as the frontal boundary responsible for it stalls out overhead.
Monday should get a boost in temperature with persistent south winds ahead of the front. Look for highs in the mid and upper 60s before the rain settles in.
Rain will only slowly sag southward Monday Night and Tuesday. The further north, the sooner the rain will come to an end, though it is too early to pinpoint details.
Temperatures on Tuesday will start out in the mid 50s while higher reach the mid 60s.
High pressure will finally take over by the middle of next week with mostly sunny skies likely Wednesday and Thursday… with a high likelihood for the whirs and roars of everyone’s lawn mowers ahead of what may turn out to be another wet weekend next week.
Temperatures should be mild during the second half of the week and the weekend with highs somewhere in the vicinity of 70 degrees.
