Weekend Weather Forecast
High pressure centered nearly overhead will keep the weather quiet for the next couple of days.
As the high slides to the southeast, warmer air will start to build back in on the return flow behind the high.
Our winds today will still be from the northwest with speeds a bit under 10 mph. These northwest winds will be connected not to cool air from Canada, but from that warmer return flow building into the Great Lakes.
Sunshine will team up with that return flow, helping temperatures rise quickly from a cold start this morning. By the afternoon, many areas will be at or above 70 degrees. A few higher elevations will stick to the 60s.
Skies will be mostly sunny throughout the day with just a few passing thin clouds from time to time.
Clear skies and nearly calm winds will lead to another cool night tonight, though it should not be as cold as this morning. Almost all areas should stay well above 40 degrees, and many lakeshore and northern areas will drop to around 50 degrees tonight.
Clouds will increase on Saturday, but sunshine will filter through them for much of the day. No rain is expected, and temperatures should add several more degrees to the afternoon high. Mid and upper 70s will be widespread for a few urban and valley locations reaching around 80 degrees.
Winds will be nearly calm most of the day and will be just a whisper from the south Saturday night. Increasing clouds will help keep nighttime temperatures in the 50s.
Rain is still possible, yet uncertain, for Sunday. A compact low pressure system will pass to our south. The exact track of the low will determine if our region sees some steady rain, a few showers, or nothing much at all. The difference between the two ends of this spectrum is not very large, and even if it rains little or not at all, it would be a close miss.
Temperatures on Sunday will depend on the rain but should be in the low 70s on the low end, to the mid and upper 70s on the high end.
Next Week’s Weather
Another high pressure system will bring a few more days of quiet weather early next week.
Monday should have sunny skies mixing with some occasional daytime-heating induced fair weather clouds. Winds will be light from the north behind Sunday’s low, but temperatures will not react.
Morning lows on Monday should be in the mid 50s with afternoon highs in the upper 70s.
Tuesday will be our first shot at widespread temperatures in the 80s. It will not get too hot, though, with most areas just getting above 80 degrees, and the warmer urban centers reaching the mid 80s. Humidity levels will be low.
Skies on Tuesday will be a mix of sun and clouds. There should be more clouds than on Monday, but it is unclear at this point just how many clouds there may be.
Wednesday also has some uncertainties as moisture starts to push back toward the region. A few late day showers or storms will be possible, but most areas will probably end up dry for most or all of the day.
A further increase in clouds, along with any afternoon showers, will likely result in temperatures near or just under Tuesday’s levels.
Rain and thunder chances will increase Thursday into Friday as a slow moving front moves into the area. The fine details of these showers and storms will need to be worked out in the coming days.
Temperatures will likely retreat to the 70s with the influx of clouds and showers late next week.
Unsettled weather will likely continue next weekend and into the following week with temperatures sticking to the upper half of the 60s or lower half of the 70s.
