Late Week Weather Forecast

Low pressure along a frontal boundary brought the area rain last night, but is now departing the region.

Meanwhile, high pressure over the Midwest is heading east and will be the primary influence on our weather for the next two days.

Much of the region is experiencing cloudy skies to start today, though there are some breaks in the overcast. The radar is mostly clear of showers, but there still may be a couple spits of rain here or there through the mid morning hours.

Sunny breaks between clouds will gradually increase through the midday and afternoon hours. By day’s end, skies should become mostly clear and will remain as such through the night, only interrupted by some patchy fog.

A steady northwest wind will blow during the daytime hours. Wind speeds will be around 10 mph. Early this evening, the wind speeds will drop, and the wind direction will turn to the north. By midnight, winds will be mostly calm with high pressure directly overhead.

Temperatures will top out in the low and mid 70s today. A few higher elevations may not quite make it all the way to 70 degrees. This evening, temperatures will quickly fall into the 50s. Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 40s across the southern half of the region, and near or just above 50 degrees for the north.

Sunny skies will dominate most of Friday. Later in the afternoon, some thin clouds will start to build in from the west, increasing and thickening during the evening.

As the high pressure system heads east, our winds will turn to the south and southeast on its backside. Wind speeds will be near or just over 5 mph.

Temperatures will get a nudge upward with highs in the mid and upper 70s. A few urban centers may hit 80 degrees.

The evening and overnight will be warmer, with temperatures slowly backing into the upper half of the 60s during the evening and mainly sticking to the low and mid 60s overnight.

Next Weather System This Weekend

Low pressure will track from the Upper Great Lakes across eastern Canada on Saturday. This system will first push a warm front through the area Saturday morning, followed by a weak cold front later Saturday.

Scattered showers will be likely during the early morning hours on Saturday, possibly lingering into the second half of the morning. These showers do not look overly heavy.

Additional showers and thunderstorms will then be likely for the afternoon and evening hours. There is uncertainty surrounding how widespread and how strong the storms may be. A few storms at least have a chance of becoming strong, but it is likely that the morning showers and lingering cloud cover will reduce the fuel necessary for a big-time severe weather event.

Temperatures on Saturday will reach a high in the mid 70s with overnight temperatures only reaching the upper 60s.

Sunday will have scattered showers. It will probably not be a washout, but there may be multiple brief showers for any given location.

Cool air will not yet be moving in with a high in the mid and upper 70s.

A more substantial cold front will move through later Sunday, sending overnight lows back into the 50s. Monday’s highs will only be in the low 70s.

Like today, Monday will start with clouds and perhaps a few showers before some late sun.

Tuesday will then turn out like tomorrow with sunny skies until some late thin clouds filter in. Look for highs around 80 degrees.

The weather may turn more unsettled for the latter half of next week, but the details are uncertain. Temperatures should at least briefly increase.
