Mid-Week Weather Forecast
High pressure has a firm grip on the region’s weather this morning.
With the center of the high overhead, skies overnight were clear with calm winds and dry air. That led temperatures into the 40s and low 50s early this morning.
The temperature will quickly rebound this morning thanks to the sunny skies and a gradually developing south-easterly breeze. The wind will remain light, but it will help budge afternoon temperatures up.
Many areas will be around 80 degrees today, with the typically warmer urban and valley locations sneaking a couple of degrees above 80. Higher elevations will mainly stick to the upper 70s.
Humidity levels will continue to be low. Some occasional thin clouds will mix with the sun, especially this afternoon. A few small fair weather clouds will also be possible.
Skies will be partly cloudy tonight as south winds increase, reaching around 10 mph by dawn.
Both of these factors will contribute to temperatures being about 10-15 degrees warmer tonight. Most areas will be at or above 60 degrees, though a few upper 50s will be possible, mainly in the Southern Tier and around Cortland County.
The south wind will increase further on Wednesday, rising above 10 mph but not higher than 15 mph. Gusts should top out around 30 mph.
Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will climb into the mid 80s with dewpoints rising into the 60s during the afternoon.
An area of showers will move in Wednesday Night, mainly after midnight. These will be scattered and light, though a stray rumble of thunder cannot be ruled out. Some areas will likely see little to no rainfall.
A few scattered showers will linger into Thursday. Most areas will be dry most of the time, though. Winds will be light, starting from the southwest but turning to the northwest.
Temperatures Thursday will start in the mid and upper 60s to perhaps near 70 in some of the warmest areas. Afternoon highs will again be in the mid 80s for most areas. Dewpoints will be muggy in the upper 60s.
Weekend Weather Forecast
Much of Friday will be dry, but showers and a few thunderstorms will become increasingly possible during the afternoon and evening hours. These will likely remain scattered and severe weather is currently not expected.
Temperatures will start Friday in the mid 60s with afternoon highs in the mid 80s. Between Wednesday and Friday, highs will probably drop an imperceptible couple of degrees.
Saturday looks mostly dry with just a few showers early on in the morning. Sunshine should increase during the afternoon.
Temperatures will start warm and muggy with lows in the upper 60s. Any loss in temperature between Wednesday and Friday will be recovered on Saturday, with mid to upper 80s for highs. Dewpoints will remain elevated but will be slightly higher in the morning than the afternoon.
Sunday should be a bit less humid and a few degrees cooler. Morning lows will start in the mid 60s and afternoon highs will mainly be in the low 80s. Dewpoints will be in the lower half of the 60s.
Rain is currently not expected on Sunday with a pleasant mix of sun and clouds.
Monday will be similar, but with slightly cooler morning lows in the low 60s and slightly warmer afternoon highs in the mid 80s.
Unsettled weather does look possible toward the middle of next week, but most of the models show lighter rain amounts.
Temperatures are likely to stick to the 80s most of the time heading into the middle of the month.
