A few showers and storms to dodge Friday and Saturday

Weekend Rain Chances

A broad, disorganized area of low pressure is overhead this morning and will linger around into Saturday.

Small bits of atmospheric energy will pass through from time to time, triggering some showers and a few thunderstorms.

One such batch of scattered showers is moving through the area early Friday morning. A spattering of small, light rain showers will persist into the mid or even late morning hours before moving out of the area.

Some sun should poke in and out of the clouds this afternoon with dry weather generally expected until around or after sunset. Then, the next batch of showers and a few thunderstorms will move through.

These, too, will be scattered but could cause some interruptions for outdoor activities and fireworks displays on a localized basis.

Probably the highest chances for rain over the next 24 hours will come between midnight and dawn, though even then, some areas may not end up seeing much if any rain.

It will be another warm and muggy day with highs in the mid 80s and dewpoints in the 65-70 degree range. Winds will be nearly calm throughout the day and into the overnight, discounting any potential thunderstorm created winds.

Overnight lows tonight will be in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

As a whole, the rain chances for Saturday are lower than today. The best chance for a stray shower or storm will be late in the afternoon, but most areas will probably stay dry throughout the day.

There will be more of a breeze tomorrow with westerly winds of 5-10 mph. Dewpoints will remain high in the morning but will retreat slightly in the afternoon to the low and mid 60s. Temperatures will top out in the mid 80 again.

Staying Warm

Humidity levels will continue to decrease for Sunday, even as temperatures remain steady with highs in the mid 80s. Some areas may even see dewpoints dip into the mid 50s Sunday afternoon.

There is just a very small chance for a shower on Sunday, mainly near the Lake Ontario shore. I am skeptical even of that, though.

Light west winds around 5 mph will turn to the northwest, then end the day from the north.

High pressure will build westward over the Atlantic Ocean on Monday. While winds at the surface will be nearly calm, the overall southerly flow on the backside of this high will push warmer air into the region.

High temperatures on Monday will make a run at 90 degrees, especially in urban and valley locations. Higher elevations will see mid and upper 80s. Dewpoints look as though they will remain on the lower side in the 50s to perhaps low 60s.

More humid air is expected on Tuesday. Afternoon showers and storms should prevent most areas from being quite as hot as Monday, though it may feel hotter and more uncomfortable.

Temperatures will be knocked back a bit for the middle of next week with highs in the low to perhaps mid 80s Wednesday, Thursday, and maybe Friday.

A few showers may linger Wednesday, but dry weather is expected Thursday and Friday.

It will remain warm for the foreseeable future with daily highs consistently in the 80s, possibly with a few hotter days like Monday mixed in.
