Showers, a Few Storms
A broad yet poorly defined area of low pressure will drift northeastward from the Mid-Atlantic, bringing some chances for rain to the area.
The leading edge of the cloudiness associated with this unsettled weather is moving into the Finger Lakes early this morning. Most of these clouds are thin and insignificant, but they will gradually increase and thicken throughout the day.
A light south wind will blow today with speeds around 5 mph.
The wind will help push temperatures into the mid 80s today despite the increasing clouds. Dewpoints will remain in check until rising well into the 60s late in the day.
The rise in moisture will coincide with the arrival of showers and thunderstorms. These will increase from south to north during the hours leading up to sunset, mainly after 6 PM.
The models vary on how widespread the rain will become and how prevalent thunder will be. The only hazard from any storms that develop will be locally heavy downpours, and some localized pockets could have some minor flooding.
Rain amounts will vary widely, from little to nothing, all the way up to pockets over an inch, maybe even two. Most areas should avoid either extreme.
Showers and storms will continue on and off throughout the night, but should mostly head east out of the area by sunrise Tuesday morning.
Tuesday will start with morning temperatures mainly in the mid 60s with afternoon highs in the low 80s. Dewpoints will stay well into the 60s, making it feel a bit muggy.
Much of Tuesday will end up dry, albeit on the cloudy side. Stray showers and storms may pop up, especially in the afternoon. It will be more common tomorrow than tonight for areas to not see any rain.
Unsettled, low-impact weather will linger into Wednesday as well. Showers and a few storms are more likely than on Tuesday, but it probably will not be a washout of a day, either. The rain on Wednesday may come at pretty much any time, morning and afternoon.
Wednesday’s highs will nudge back up into the mid 80s coupled with dewpoints in the upper half of the 60s. Morning lows will remain in the mid 60s.
Dry Late Week, Weekend
As we head into the second half of the week, the weather should turn sunny and dry as high pressure builds in.
A few lingering showers or storms may be possible on Thursday, but most areas will probably stay dry.
Morning lows will again be in the mid 60s. Developing northwest winds will bring in cooler, less humid air. Afternoon highs will be around 80 degrees and dewpoints will retreat into the 50s during the afternoon.
Friday will have a mix of sun and clouds with no rain expected. Morning lows will start off around 60 degrees and afternoon highs will hit the upper 70s to around 80 degrees.
Dry weather is expected for the weekend, when even clouds may be harder to come by. Both Saturday and Sunday should be sun-filled with low humidity. Temperatures will start to warm, though, with low 80s Saturday and mid 80s Sunday.
As a whole, next week looks hotter, with temperatures continuing to rise until midweek. As we close out July next Wednesday, there will at least be a chance for some places to hit 90 degrees.
The next round of unsettled weather will build in for the end of next week to kick off August.
